Smart weather

Post by long_time_fan »

Hi guys,
I'm not sure that this has been suggested as yet. I know that there've been some issues with the rain in league play, and I'm sure that Dave is sorting it out. One thing that is sort of odd though is the way that the weather really fluctuates. One week the weather is cold and raining, next there's snow, then there's perfect weather. My suggestion is that there be a way to set the start of a season to a certain month (say June as in the CFL). Then as the season progresses, depending on the location (northern Canadian, US, etc...) you move from perfect weather, to rain, cold, and finally snow (with a little variety of course) as the location dictates. It is probably far more complicated than it seems to do, but I think that it will enhance the game.
Thanks,

This would be great. If im simulating the USFL, it shouldnt snow except maybe in the first few weeks.
Would be a nice addition to select the start month

Hi

Much of what you're speaking of already exists in the game. The weather for league games degrades over time. So the further into your season, the worse the weather will get. Weather is also based on region. It's more likely to snow sooner in a season if the home team is in a northern location than if you're in a southern region where it might just be rainy.

The 'continual rain' bug has been solved, but the weather system itself (degrading over time based and based on home team location) is already taken into account.

Future versions need to know when the season starts though. Right now, the game assumes a later summer start to the season.

thanks
David

Thanks David. Also, something nice would be to assign a game a noon, evening or night start time. Maybe a schedule editor addition for the future. Along with creating my own schedule, if I could determine which, if any, games are at night.

At this time, there are four (0-3) team city locations by region. It would be nice to have six, eight, or even twelve regions for weather and temperature effects. The Midwest get much colder than the Northeast. Michigan and upstate New York get lake effects snow. The Pacific Northwest get much more rain than California, as does Florida, but Florida is much warmer. Vancouver is much more like Seattle and Winnipeg is more like Minneapolis.

It would be nice to have noon, late afternoon, and night games with the sky associated with which ever is selected.

It would also be nice if games that start in late afternoon would finish in the night.
