Thinking about a purchase

Post by cesteman »

The subject says it all. I used to own this great game way back when it was TOAW II. What's been added since then and what made you buy the game. Thanks for the input!! Cheers.

What's been added ?
So many things that it's a new game!!!!

What made you buy the game?
As yourself, played from the 'old' days, and this suker just gets better!!! One version or the other has been 'permanently' on HD since the beginning!

Do yourself a favor! Just get it, eh? Can't imagine any other game with so many hours of play......!

Take the plunge. If you remember how good it was then, you'll be impressed by how far its come.

James (project leader emeritus) , Ralph (Programmer/code-monkey/code-guru), and the testing crew (TOAD???) do a yeoman's work keeping this beauty in the byte-stream.

Now, to find some time to hand in my PBEM turns.... there never seems to be enough...

Right-Click, choose 'board ship (need to be in a port)/plane (need to be at an airfield)/train (need to be on a rail line)'
or entrench them!!
Right-click, entrennch. You get multiple levels with leaving them unmoved, and re-entrenching.
Looking through the manual now :)
Manuals? We don't need no stinkin' manuals.....[:D]

Lol Thanks Jeff. I found that right clicking on a unit to board a plane doesn't work. I've had to to the the top right of the screen and click on your transport points and then select board. Then you can move then from say an off field location. I haven't seen any units I can entrench yet, same goes for moving by ship. I'm only playing a modern scenario right now so maybe those options are different? I was messing around with the tutorial and noticed some units show up in Japan but couldn't (at the time) figure out how to move them from Japan. Maybe I didn't have enough points to move them yet? cheers.

Oh, Just as a follow up, I thought that the turorial was a step by step walk through but it's just like any other scenario. Did I do something wrong? Maybe I should start a new thread! LOL

cesteman,

You need to be playing with the advanced rules for right clicking to work. Actually, you need to be playing with advanced rules full stop (it's where all the fun is). [:)]

Best wishes,

I love the smell of TOAW in the morning...

Which tutorial do you speak of? The anonymous heroics or the Korea "Tutorial"?

You may open the associated document where every single step is explained. Either go to the folder scenarios/tutorials in your TOAW3 folder or open the document from the game. You can open it from the game in the scenario description, either from the scenario list or from within the scenario by clicking the documentation button.

Most likely, only with themselves........

[:D][:D][:D]

Sorry for that, but truth is: most of the meat is in the advanced ruleset.

Standard is a REALLY dumbed down version of the game, eh? Your only learning to move some counters, not make use of the full capabilities of the game engine...

Advanced may have an 'alpinic' learning curve, but why bother with anything less than the 'full magilla' ? Which would be especially true if one plans to enter the pbem part of ToaW (there can be only one, [:D]) .........
