Editor Crash

Post by lucinus »

Hi Everyone,

When I load the last version of operation Merkur ( http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/scenar ... php?Id=759 )in the editor and try to generate the image file of the map, it crashed systematically. All people I asked to do this have the same issue.

Thanks,
François

Well, it's a huge map and if you're low on RAM.. Maybe try to run TOAWIII only (no other aplications) and try again.

I did that with my laptop which has 2 GB of memory. I don't think this is the issue. At least in the past (Cow I think) with an older computer I was running low in memory for huge maps but the virtual memory allowed me to achieve this (but very slowly)

2 GB should be enough.. have you tried it with another huge map, i.e. EA or FitE ? Does it crash, too?

I can verify the crash when trying to save the map.
When checking the scenario properties I get this message:
'This scenario is valid, but may need additional work.
Use Edit Map Boundaries to set map boundaries. (optional)'

The map size is at the maximum, 300x300.
I've tried (re)setting the boundaries to 300x300.
I'd rather not change the map as a number of units (and reinforcements) are located at the map edges.
To my knowledge it doesn't affect the play of the scenario.

James/Ralph?

Edit: If Ralph can fix this by doctoring the scenario file, I'd naturally like the updated v3.2 to be fixed.

For now, I would suggest trying to find someone with a Win98 SE equipped computer and ask them to do the map dump. There seems to be a memory allocation or file paging problem with map dumping the large sized maps in XP. I get the same problem with Fire in the East.

...someone like me.. Sad but true the game crashed to desktop when i tried to dump as a bitmap. But it's no vanilla 98 SE so to speak, i applied some unofficial upgrades and tweaks from the MSN forums, maybe it's because of this. It's no memory problem as it would have behaved different then (it would have freezed - had this one time with a FitE map).

Maybe someone with Linux can try to generate a map dump?

I can verify the crash when trying to save the map.

I was able to create the map image with my XP machine. It took 40 minutes and the file was 468MB, but it did it. I attached a screenshot of it.

(Note that this will be a real problem when "Movies" are turned on with this scenario. We really need the option to limit Movie files to just the microscreen.)

This isn't a problem. Just ignore it. My "Okinawa 1945" scenario is the same.
