Maximum-Football 2.1

Post by David Winter »

Greetings.

As you may have noticed, Maximum-Football 2.0 is now available. I hope everyone enjoys the new version.

With the release of the new version, work has already started on an update to version 2.0 as well as the baby steps towards the next major version.

The first update for version 2.0 is due in the next week or two. With that update I will address two items that were cleaned up after V2.0 had gone gold as well I hope to address any additional items that the gamer here may find.

The two post GM items that came up have already been addressed but just so people know what they are;

1. In Canadian football, there is a yard line restriction for penalties. If a penalty occurs inside the 30 yard line, and the penalty distance would take the ball more than 1/2 the distance to the goal, the penalty distance is restricted to 1/2 the distance to the goal. When playing on the 110 yard field, this is working as expected. Unfortunately, this restriction is also being incorrectly applied to the 100 yard field and any penalty that occurs inside the 20 is subject to this 1/2 distance adjustment.

That has been fixed.

2. Not a bug per se, but more clarity has been added to roster management. It was noted during late testing that on occasion the computer would adjust the roster of a human controlled team if going into a Quick Sim game. This would occur if the human adjustments to the roster didn't match up to the Team Profile of that team. The Team Profile is the bible of the team and is what the computer uses to make roster decisions. When you send your team into Quick Sim game you're giving control of the team temporarily to the computer. If the roster break down doesn't match the Team Profile, the computer will adjust your roster (and in turn your depth charts). This is correct action on the games part, but it would be understandably confusing to the player of the game. So I've added a small number of popups that are displayed if you make roster adjustments outside of the Team Profile. These popups simply inform you that you are straying outside the Team Profile and that the computer may adjust your roster and depth chart if you go into a Quick Sim game.

Those pop ups have been added.

There is also some additional checks on loading saved games to ensure that games saved with previous versions of the game do not load into the new version. This sounds like an annoying restriction, but much of the game has changed and the data stored in the older saved game files simply doesn't match anymore.

Version 2.0 is a very different game than previous versions. I'm sure there will be questions regarding how new features work, or how existing features have been changed to work slightly differently in the new version.

I understand that some issues may be found in the next little while. The beta team, while exceedingly dedicated, is quite small and is unlikely to find all the little annoyances. Those will be addressed as quickly as I can address them.

Thank you

Thank you all again for your continued support of Maximum-Football. I hope everyone enjoys the new version. I think it's a significant step in the progression of the title.

I skimmed the manual, checked other threads, and loaded up the play editor...from what I can tell we still have to cram all our plays into a single folder and scroll though 15 million plays just to find one.  Please tell me I missed something because this is unbearable if that is the case, because improved play organization is THE biggest thing keeping me from fully enjoying the game (other than my dying CPU).

I agree, and I think the next version will be changed.  In the meantime I copied the playbooks and plays I wanted to use to a different folder, then deleted everything from the plays folder, then just copied the playbooks/plays that I will use to the "plays" folder, this cuts down on the plays and formations.

Hi.

Based on additional reports, the following problems have been addressed in the next update.

1. Interception stats are not recorded if you skip the huddle process by pressing space. That's fixed.

2. Remote Out files are not saving correctly. That's fixed.

3. The scoreboard does not show the game clock in sudden death OT. That's fixed.

4. Turning on the sound via the pause menu does not enabled the crowd noise until the next play. That's fixed.

5. A couple of the Team Profiles have been adjusted and will be in the update.

6. A number of the play thumbnails for the Canadian playbook were not included in the installation package. Those have been regenerated and will be in the next update. You can also download them from here: http://www.maximum-football.com/files/c ... update.zip Just unzip the files into the Plays folder and overwrite all files if prompted.

7. In arcade mode, the snap to closest defender button does not seem to function as designed. That is under investigation.

The first update to version 2.0 is due in the next week to 10 days.

thanks
David

Hello.

The testers have received another build today and hopefully we'll be able to get through that one pretty quickly to ensure that we're good to go for the hotfix for the above items.

As well as the items mentioned above, 2.1 will also have;

- The league game continual rain problem fixed. There is also an additional entry in the settings.ini file that allows you to turn off weather in league games all together (out door games will always be clear).

- The QB fatigue has been adjusted so that they're less likely to be subbed out (although it can still happen depending on the play style in use)

- The kick off strength has been upped slightly so that they travel further.

- The (X) button now properly takes you to the closest defender to the ball.

- Fixed an over time bug that would cause the length of the quick play overtime to be that of the league you're using, and not the length specified by the quick play rules.

- The holder position is now properly available on the depth charts.

Thanks
David

I've never heard crowd noise in the game at all. Will this fix that as well?

Yes. I should have said that I can hear the crowd make sound on touchdowns and 'bad plays' but there is no constant crowd noise(background).

Okay, then I would suspect it will take care of what you're experiencing as well. If you were hearing no sounds, that would have been something very different.

thanks

I have had Max FB since it was first released, and while I think the game has great potential, It bothered me greatly that most of my plays would not transfer to 2.0. Beyond that I have just a few problems.......

A few problems I have had in 2.0 :

Penalty yards were added to players rushing totals.

After punts, lineups are messed up for one play and then revert to proper lineups the next play.(i.e. players who supposedly have been on the bench while the defense is on the field are subbed out for other players, and after halftime the starting offense is 1/2 subs.)

Interceptions are not showing up on the game logs.

game log still does not show a complete game and the gameclock on the gamelog is incorrect.

Have found a work-around with the TE-s by making them receivers and then putting them where I want them and then making them TE's again.
(on the roster depth charts they don't show up at all)

Otherwise I see great things for this game. Messing around with player ratings has gotten me some great results as far as stats go. 2.0 beats the heck out of the former game and I even liked it. As a former FBPro player who had run a league with 16 seasons I think David has done an outstanding job. This is very, very close to a game I would design if I had the ability.

Once again, thanks David for an enjoyable game and for your willingness to improve what is a very good product. But really fix the game logs, please!
