Error Message

Just installed (twice) and get this error message:
Fatal error:818


What's up?

This is a new one on me - usually errors from 700-800 mean you need to reinstall, but this is outside that range, and you've already tried reinstallation.

So, let's get a few details:
1) what kind of computer are you installing this to? (and how much memory, etc)
2) What OS are you using?
3) Are you using any fancy graphics card?

Try renaming the VIDEO folder to NOVIDEO and the SOUND folder to NOSOUND and see if the error goes away. I think 818 might be a codex error.

I tried the renaming folders trick, no difference.

Thank you for responding so fast! I didn't expect it and had gone to the other room.
Computer: 2.21 GHz AMD processor, 2 gigs of ram
OS: XP
Graphics Card: Radeon X1550 with 256 gigs of memory (I think) I think the computer meets the minimum requirements.

Your computer certainly meets min specs... i'll have to do some more checking into this error code.

Did you patch this to the latest, or patch the comprehensive patch fisrt, then the latest.  Installing the game & then patching the latest patch beore loading the comprehensive will give this error.

I cannot find the comprehensive patch. I did patch the latest, and only the latest patch. Again, cannot find the earlier patch.

I found the comprehensive patch. Turns out that you have to look for it first! I will try this!

[:)]Thanks guys. You guys are great. Uninstalled, reinstalled and applied Patch No. 1 first, then Patch No. 2 and everything works great. I'm afraid that playing the game will be more difficult than the installation though. Thanks again!
