AB Extended Map--Problem

Post by John 3rd »

Hi. I am trying to install AB's Extended Map so I can load Big B's 1.4 Mod and I cannot get past a problem.

I am computer challenged so bear with me. This is what I have done:

1. As per the instructions, I loaded the regular AB map first. No problem.

2. On loading the the Extended Map, I get this message: Back-Up to official game art has not been found. A back-up can be created now press 'b' for yes and 'q' to quit.

I press b and NOTHING happens. The only action I get is when I press q and it quits.

Help!

Do you have more than one copy of WitP installed?

No I do not.

How do I do that?  Do I retitled the WitP install?

I just played a turn with Paul Layne and I's long-term campaign and it came up as your map.  VERY NICE!  Of course it didn't really work with an old stock game...

Might as well ask how you shift back-and-forth with the maps...

Thinking on the earlier question, I could do a second install of WitP with a simple WitP-2 notation and load all my Mods into that.  Is that what you were asking Andrew?  Feel fairly stupid at the moment!

So did you get it to work?

Many people prefer having a separate install if they use a mod. To do this, just copy the entire contents of the War in the Pacific folder to another location. The only problem this causes is that it is a bit trickier to load patches into the copied installation.

Otherwise, the "modselect" batch file utility that comes with the map can be used to switch between it and the stock map.

I've got the regular AB Map installed.  I cannot get the Extended Map added on.  It keeps asking what I reported earlier.  I would REALLY love to do the Big B Mod using the Extended Map.  I am going to create a seperate file for WitP so I can just use one for the Mods and the other for my Stock Games.  We'll see what happens.

Andrew--Why would the install file for the Extended Map NOT let me create a back-up like what I described earlier in this posting?

John
I would copy WitP into a second folder and rename it. I have two installs of WitP under the Matrix folder. One is stock (which I have changed over to AB's extended map) and another for CHS. Last night after out PM, I went back to download Big B's and install AB's extended map. The first time I extracted AB's extended, the "Mod Select" did not show the extended map as an option. Go back to the zip file and extract it again to C:\Matrix Games\...(whatever your 2nd install is called) and make sure you have the "overwrite files" box checked.

I also had to copy the original "ART" folder into "My Documents" before I download and installed Big B's. In all, I had to do things twice before the mod and maps were installed. [;)]

Let me know if I can help.

Hey Sir!

I have created a second WitP Folder, downloaded AB Regular and Extended, and Brian's 1.4.  Now we'll see if it works for installation...

OK.  Thsi is what I have done:

1.  I have installed the regular map and TRIED to install the Extended Map.
2.  I loaded Brian's 1.4 Scen 192 without issue.
3.  Loaded the new game with its parameters for the email campaign.
4.  The map came up but things are off.  I see the Hawaiian Islands but the bases are off.  I see the island of Aden as a base but there is no island.

Beyond pulling what little hair out that I have left, does ANYONE know what the issue is?  I could send the file--with password--for a person to look at...

I've had the same thing happen before. [:D][:D]
I "think" the extended map is not properly loaded (Aden and Panama show up) but the shipping channels are missing. Are they??  I got it to work, but I "think" that I had to unzip the extended map file again.

Andrew or another person that is more computer savy will need to give you specifics. [;)]
You could try unzipping the extended map file again and go throug the whole process with the Mod Select and see if that works (it will not hurt ).

Tried it again and I still get this message: Back-Up to official game art has not been found. A back-up can be created now press 'b' for yes and 'q' to quit.

I press b and NOTHING happens. The only action I get is when I press q and it quits.

This must be the issue.  It will not let me go forward with the completion of the install.

On this new install, in the ART folder, do you have the following folders: Backup, Map_Modified_v6, Map_Modified_v6x, & Maps Official??

Plus, if you go down to the bottom of the ART folder, you'll see a series of map sections. Make sure you have WITP00 and WITN00 that show Aden with the shipping channels. This will indicate you have both AB and AB extended downloaded.

If any of these are missing you may have to do what I did once. Delete this ART folder and copy the original ART from your stock install into the new install and do the Big B mod and AB thing all over again. [X(] Hopefully, you will not have too.

The automatic installation script only works when installing to your first WitP install, not to any copies.

If you make a copy of WitP, and want to install my maps into the copied game, then you have to do it manually. There are instructions in the readme file, provided with the map, on what has to be placed where using manual installation.

Does that mean you will invade Portland, OR on day one with a NLF and thus allow me to get all my reinforcements 6 months early?? [:D][:D]
