Why lack of smaller scenarios?
I see there are a some dedicated people who create the much improved ship arts and map mods, etc. etc...but no one seems intersted in doing scenarios.
Where is Leyte Gulf...Tarawa & the conquest of the Gilberts, Okinawa for example? WITP has a very powerful scenario editor able to create any situation so I´m wondering why no one has done any of these smaller campaigns.
For those of us that do not wish to spend 3-4 years doing the grand campaign it would be nice to see someone or some people create some challenging & interesting scenarios from these episodes during the war.

Well, Tarawa isn't much of a scenario at this scale, but you're welcome to build a Leyte Gulf scenario...

BTW, someone did do a masive scenario overhaul...it's called War Plan Orange...

Yes, great game but the lack of smaller scenarios really hurt. An alt 1941 campaign in the Phillipines with more resources available to the allies would be fun.

I´d enjoy building or playing Leyte gulf but on the building part of it...I don´t have the historical resources to make it historicaly accurate I think.but you're welcome to build a Leyte Gulf scenario...

RE: Why lack of smaller scenarios?
Doing a scenario isn't as easy as it might sound. Finding realistic OOB information can be very tough. I had a strong interest in doing an Aelutian Scenario, but ran into numerous problems. I was planning one history based scenario and one "what if".
However, the first was that weather in witp isn't really modeled well enough to capture what really went on. Second OOB information is very tough to come by.

I think i´d be better at scenario design than ship artwork. [:D]Doing a scenario isn't as easy as it might sound.

Regarding the Aleutians, weather and terrain are the biggest problems. WitP isn't capable of modeling the horrors of fighting up there. OOB, however, is certainly findable.

I agree. It is 1.5 years later and I know a bit more about the pacific war. I think I could find the Allied OOB, but not sure I could figure out the Japanese.ORIGINAL: Terminus

Another problem is the scoring system. It's not geared for sudden-death type deals, where you take one base or sink one ship and you've won. The only way to circumvent that would be through house rules, and there's more than enough of those around already...

I know Nikademus has modded the Guadalcanal campaign - that's certainly shorter than the Grand campaign (and if you play it - it may save a rubber duckie's life).
Some time ago I did the Coral Sea battle (but I haven't upgraded it to current 1.4 standard). I was thinking about modding the First Year campaign and the DEI campaign - but I haven't had the time. I guess that really is why more smaller campaigns haven't been done...time.

Can we get the whole art pack? I am thrilled to see what BB Yamato would look like.

On the other hand, that would call for very interesting discussion in a forum like this. Was it a strategic loss and a tactical win or the other way around.... [:)]
By that I mean that the scoring system is not necessarily a roadblock, and it doesn't really require house rules either. If the scenario is short, play it and then discuss what the result really mean
RE: Why lack of smaller scenarios?
Actually, doing even a "small" scenario, is a fairly huge undertaking. I did Midway a while back based on the OBs from Shattered Sword, and it was still huge (basically, when they say Japan threw everything at us, that's exactly what they did - there is very little left out of the Japanese OB in Midway).
But it's a LOT of time to do a scenario correctly.
I did Midway a while back tho, and one of the patches seems to have broken it (the stuff loads in all wierd now). So I'll basically have to re-do it, and that's about 40 hours that my opponents would probably rather me spend on turns. [;)]

RE: Why lack of smaller scenarios?
Another guy and I modded the South Pacific/Guadacanal campaign and it is pretty good. Tried to make it more balanced for the Allies and altered a lot of non historical airplanes. Porked the DC for both sides for more realistic ASW attacks. (That worked pretty well) and gave the Allies sligtly better torps. Some earlier OOB arrivals for the Allies.
Not perfect but better. The OOB work was the hardest. My buddy did the OOB work and I did the editor work. It was fun but time consuming.
You can find it at Spookys site.
