WITP under Mac OS X parallels

Post by Emilio »

Hello,

Have anyone tried to play WITP under Mac OS X using Parallels software? I have some problems using either Full Screen mode, Window Screen mode or even Coherence.

It loads fine, but once I have selected a saved game an error windows is shown.

My configuration is a MacBook, Intel Core Duo, 2 Ghz, 2 GB RAM.

If someone is playing WITP with Parallels, please, could you tell me your Parallels configuration? Otherwise I have to switch from Mac OS X to Windows. With other Matrix games, as Flashpoint Germany, Korsun Pocket, Harpoon 3 ANW or Highway to the Reich I didn't have any problem.

Thanks.

Emilio.

I prefer to use BootCamp on my MacBook Pro, but I can run under Parallels. Let me check... OK, it's like a dancing bear for games. You can turn on Direct X. The biggest problem looks to be memory, especially video memory. Do you have the latest version of Parallels?

Hello Herwin,

Your are lucky with your MacBook Pro, at least 128 MB of dedicated video memory. I only have 64 MB shared video memory.

Anyway, Parallels is updated to the latest version, 3.0 Build 4128.

I'm currently using a boot camp partition to start the virtual machine, mainly in coherence mode (some games doesn't support coherence since low resolution, but they run fine in window or full screen mode).

I have assigned 900 MB RAM memory to my Windows XP virtual machine. Video memory is set to 32 MB. Also the Enable DirectX support checkbox is selected.

I will try to modify Video Resource into the Configuration Editor. There is a check box called Enable Custom Screen Resolution. Currently nothing is selected here, but I think that I can order the screen resolution (1280 x 800, as typical for the MacBook 13.3").

Let's see if that works.

OK, good luck. If necessary, I can give it a try to double check your experience.

The latest version of Parallels is not happy running on my MacBook Pro. Probably not enough memory (2GB).

Finally I gave up trying to use the Boot Camp partition and I tried to play in a "real" virtual machine.

The virtual machine has the following features:
- Windows XP Proffessional SP2.
- 752 MB of RAM memory.
- 16 MB of video memory.
- DirectX enabled.
- 15 GB size for the virtual machine.

It runs really fine. It is so smooth and fast that you don't notice that it is a virtual machine. Definetly this is the way that I will play Matrix games. I have tested both with WITP and Flashpoint Germany. I will do that with Korsun Pocket, Highway to the Reich, Harpoon 3 ANW. I also own Panzer Command: Operation Winter Storm, but the video requirements are too high for a MacBook laptop.

Attached you can find a screenshot for the WITP game that I'm currently playing against rybeck. Scenario is 155 (CHS 2.08d).

Parallels version is 3.0, build 5160.

Now there are no excuses for Mac owners to play decent wargames!

Emilio.
