Milwaukee takes the opener of the series behind Pete Broberg's complete game, 6-3. Broberg allowed a 3rd-inning 3-run homer to Reggie Jackson, then shut the door the rest of the way. Catfish Hunter fell to 7-5, allowing 6 earned runs on 10 hits in 7 1/3 innings. Hank Aaron and Robin Yount homered for the Brewers.

Milwaukee completed the 2-game sweep, beating the A's 7-5. Pedro Garcia was 2-2 with a homer and 4 RBI. George Scott also homered and drove in 2. For Oakland, Claudell Washington continued his hot hitting. The young left fielder was 4-5, with a double, triple, and 3 batted in. He also stole his 11th base. Claudell is now hitting .362, tops in the American League. The road trip continues into Detroit tomorrow.

Joe Rudi's grand slam in the top of the 6th broke a 5-5 tie and the A's went on to defeat Detroit 11-6. Rudi smacked 2 homers on the day and drove in 6. Reggie Jackson was 3-4 with an RBI. Claudell Washington continued his hot streak, as he was 2-4 with an RBI. Dick Bosman allowed 5 runs in 5 innings, but got the win to improve to 5-1.

The A's took their 2nd straight against the Tigers, 7-5. Billy Williams had a 2-run homer. Joe Rudi was 2-5 with 2 RBI, and Sal Bando was 3-5. Ken Holtzman allowed 2 earned runs in 7 innings, picking up the victory and improving to 8-4.

Rod Carew's triple in the last of the 9th scored Steve Brye with the winning run as the Twins edged the A's 6-5. Oakland led 5-2 going into the 7th, before Minnesota scored once and loaded the bases against a tiring Catfish Hunter. Paul Lindblad was brought in to face Carew, who lined hard to Reggie Jackson in right field. Jackson misplayed the ball, allowing the tying runs to score. Gene Tenace was 3-5 with a double, homer, and 3 RBI for the A's. The A's and Twins play a doubleheader on Tuesday, followed by single games on Wednesday and Thursday.

Claudell Washington was 2-4 with a triple and RBI. The A's won their 3rd straight against the Royals, 4-3. Starting pitcher Dick Bosman suffered a knee injury in the 1st inning and was replaced by Glenn Abbott, who earned the win. Paul Lindblad picked up his 3rd save. Bosman will be unavailable for at least 3 weeks. Gene Tenace also suffered a minor wrist injury and will be out a few days. The A's recalled pitcher Mike Norris from AAA.

The A's completed a 4-game sweep of the Royals 4-2, opening up a 2 1/2 game lead in the AL West. Ken Holtzman pitched 7 strong innings and then got bullpen help from Jim Todd and Paul Lindblad. Ray Fosse was 3-4. Phil Garner had a 2-run triple and was 2-4 on the game. The A's now host Minnesota for a 3-game series.

Minnesota broke open an 8-8 game, scoring 6 runs in the top of the 9th to beat the A's 14-8. Johnny Briggs was 4-5 with 3 RBI. Eric Soderholm was 4-6 with a homer. Larry Hisle was 3-5 with a homer. Steve Braun and Tony Oliva also homered. The A's are now 2-8 against the Twins this season.

The A's scored twice in the bottom of the 8th and went on to beat the Twins 4-3. With the A's trailing 3-2, Billy Williams hit a solo homer to tie the game. One out later, Bert Campaneris tripled. Larry Haney, who had driven Campy home with a sac fly back in the 6th after another Campaneris triple, again delivered a sacrifice fly for the game-winner. Paul Lindblad (2-3) picked up the win in relief. The A's will take Thursday off, before heading to Anaheim for a 3-game series with the Angels.

Catfish Hunter outdueled Bill Singer and the A's evened the series with a 1-0 victory over the Angels. The A's scored the only run of the game in the top of the 5th. Bert Campaneris singled, stole 2nd, then scored on Claudell Washington's double.

Jim Perry got the start and took a shutout into the 8th inning. The A's chased Chicago starter Pete Vuckovich in the 4th and beat the White Sox 7-4. Gene Tenace returned to the lineup with a 3-run homer and Claudell Washington continued his hot hitting, going 4 for 5. The A's finish off a great 18-11 June in first place.
