autodisband function

Post by Cathartes »

I just posted this in the "War Room", but thought it might be more relevant in this forum.

Had several capital ships just get sunk in a PBEM because they did not autodisband. They were all one hex away in Moulmein, on surface combat, mission speed, retirement allowed, destination hex was the same as the homeport (Rangoon), and the TF was set on autodisband to a level 6 port (Rangoon).

I was hoping to avoid the naval attack that I knew was coming. After the turn resolution two of 12 ships ships were docked in port with massive damage. All the rest had been sunk (CLs).

When does autodisband take place in the turn sequence? If it's during the movement phase, why didn't my ships disband as intended? Any help is appreciated, I want to avoid such a disaster in the future.

Autodisband takes place at the very end of the turn - so that the enemy planes get a shot at you and may sink your ships before they disband into the port.

I agree with rtrapasso.

Auto-disband occurs after all of that turns combat/attacks have been calculated and displayed, after new arrivals are brought into the game, and so on.

Drats.  Mishap was all my doing then!  I don't know that I saw this clearly explained in the manual, but I guess I didn't look carefully enough.  I have now learned something new at a great expense.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a task forces disbanding message go by in the little information window at the bottom toward the end of a turn.  If you are one of the people that watches the turn run you'll probably see it if you watch for it.

There are some other opinions in the war room that you might want to read as well.
