And as I said, this is a problem as even if the surprise is not gained the units can just sit there. Not to mention that the 'surprise' itself is rather ridicilous, one can move entire armies across the frozen lakes and since it's a turn based game the opponent cano't react until it is his turn.

In fact, in a IGOUGO-game one can react instantly (quite unrealistic). The length of the turn defines how much damage your opponent can make before your "instant" reaction.

Not exactly. The IGO-UGO system is more like one where there are twice as many days in the week, but your guys can only move or attack on alternate ones.
The days may be called "Monday 1" and "Monday 2", but one definitely occurs after the other; nothing on Monday 2 can influence events on Monday 1.
"What did you read at university?"
"War Studies"
"War? Huh. What is it good for?"
"Absolutely nothing."

Just be glad that you only have to face one Monday a week in real life.

Actually, things done in M-2 can influence things done in M-1, however things done in M-2 canno't be influenced by M-1. Ie, player 2 has the chance of cutting supply and resuming supplylines for his own forces.

Not at all. The supply isn't cut off until Tuesday 1; everyone is still considered supplied on both Mondays provided that they could trace it on the morning of Monday 1.

RE: Frozen lakes
Yes, but my meaning was that if units from side 2 are encircled on player 1 turn, player 2 can still try to save those untis in his turn. But if player 2 encircles some units on his turn, player 1 can try to save those units next turn, when they are now considered unsupplied.
RE: Frozen lakes
this is the reason imo we need to calculate supply every half turn!, and air power, major code so its a Toaw4 add on!

..why not if the ice is thick enough..
Because when you start to dig in the ice is not that thick anymore...I think in Bay of Vyborg the ice was around 1 meter thick. Enough for light tanks, but you can't dig in there. The only thing you can do is try to make some cover from snow, but any artillery can decimate these(and heavier ones will crack really big holes there). Plus any movement is easily detected and will be completely in the open.
..yahh, fine, but if it's one of the relatively shallow, fresh water, mosquito-breeding inland lakes, that seem to cover most of Finland that isn't pine forest, then during winter i think you'll get solid enough ice for any cocktail..

In regards to fortifying on frozen lakes, it can, and has been, done. It takes a lot of effort, resources, time and water to do it, but it is possible. The fortifications end up looking alot like sangars from the desert, except white and snowy, of course.

In that connection... the 'battle on the ice' scenes in Alexander Nevsky were shot in the middle of the summer. They just used sand.
