What to do Next? Let's Vote!

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Well, once Tarawa is finished it will be time to move on to a new project....question is which front? There seems to be more than enough covering the Eastern Front (my own favorite) and North Africa. I know there are several people out there making some really fine scenarios and even campaigns...why not see where the demand is and make a few people happy? :)
Just for the heck of it...what are some of the battle fronts my fellow SPWAW players are interested in seeing more scenarios created for?

1. Western/Central Europe 1939 - 40
2. Eastern Front 1941 - 45
3. Western Europe 1944 - 45
4. Far East (China and SE Asia) 1938 - 1945
5. Pacific Front (Islands and Phillippines) 1941 - 45
6. Balkans 1940 - 1941
7. North Africa/Italy 1940 - 1945

Hope to see some input!

Come on all you SPWAW potatoes...vote! :D
I know there are more than six of us out there....I've seen the posts...and the number of hits the poll has. I know they say Americans don't turn out to vote, but at least this is an important issue, not like the presidency. :p Just kiddin' there.
Anyway, have a bit of fun while you're here and hit a number...you can't much easier than that!

Elect a president, what a novel idea, I thought we bought them. :D
At least we always seem to be paying for them.:(

22 votes in and thus far it seems that Western/Central Europe 1939-40 has the lead.
Looks like Poland/Finland/Lowlands-France and Scandanavia have some people interested in them. ;)
Let's see where it goes from here.
For the rest of you who have peeked in and didn't vote....get in the game and voice your opinion!!! :D

Now with Mountanizer and the other editor stuff at hand one can finally try to make some decent italy43/44 stuff.
No matter what scenarios campaigns are made finally, I think they should be more non-german played! French, soviets, commonwealth ect.

RH,

I tend to agree with you on the "non-german" theme. Not that I don't enjoy having a Tiger take on the world from time to time mind you :D but I think there is a lot of "new ground" that can be covered.
Just as you said...how about the French, or even the Poles, Yugoslavs and Greeks? I think all of these "minor nation" themes could be very interesting.
I know people like Redleg like to use these smaller, less publicized themes to model scenarios off of and these tend to be very playable and fun.
So hopefully the poll will help some of us scenario-designers (newbies..like me... and vets alike) have a way to measure what the interests are of the SPWAW community at large and perhaps fill some of those needs.

ps...mountainizer eh? I have a Greek-Italian scenario that I've been messing with for awhile...that might come in handy! ;)

Well almost to 30 votes :) (compared to over a 150 hits :( ... but about the right percentage for a voting issue ;) ) and it seems that Western/Central Europe is still hanging on to that 1st place spot....though the Balkans and North Africa have gained some ground.
Well, the poll was set to expire after ten days...so it's about a 1/3 over now. If you haven't thrown in your 2 cents yet...do so. Otherwise don't complain that no one ever asked about what you would like to see in terms of scenarios! :D

Jess,
Thanks. :) Well the voting still has something like four or five days left...so the western front "the late years" isn't dead yet. :D
I just figured since there are those of us that like to build scenarios and there are those of us out there that just like to play new scenarios (because they don't have the time to do it themselves)....why not come up with a way to keep both groups happy? ;)
At first, when there were only four votes after nearly three days I thought...this won't be hard. But then the voting picked up ( with a few tauntings from me to boot :) )and now it's actually been rather fun to watch it sway from one to the other.
Anyway, at least we now have an idea of what people want to see...so maybe we can deliver some early Christmas presents.
:D

m10bob,
"Dimpled Chads":D ...God there's a phrase I can live without.
I don't think the poll is saying that people want more scenarios based from the German side...just a different theatre of operations for a little change of pace.
Don't think for a moment that Patton's drive across France and into Germany isn't a topic that could give birth to a host of fine scenarios or even a short campaign or two...and I'm sure it will be covered in due time. :)
Right now ( personally ) I think there is desire of many SPWAW fans to fight battles that don't have massive Tigers and Stalin II's roaming about killing things from half the map away. ( ok, stretching it a bit, I know :D ) I know I have a great interest to see how the Pz 38's and Pz III's stood up against, oh lets say, a Polish 7TPjw, or a French Somua S35? (and vice versa)
Since players can't just stand there and take the punishment like they can in later years with several inches of Krupp's armor ( in the case of the German side) to shield them...scenarios based on the wars early years force players to be more alert and make better tactical decisions.
Again, not to take away from the Western Front 44-45...where the Allies had to contend with having lesser quality machines, but I think the poll is just showing that people want more than just the Americans/British/Russians vs the Germans. After all "Variety is the spice of life"...or so they say! ;)

Mojo,
Hey, I like that. Maybe we should nickname any scenarios from 1937-1940 as the "Poof - Plink Era"? :D
" Annoucning the first scenario of the Poof - Plink Collection ". :p

ps...how is good ole Portland Oregon these days? I lived in Wilsonville for three years a while back. Never could get use to summer being July to September. :)

I must agree with M4Jess a bit... a Market Garden or Bulge campaign would be a thrill and a half, as would a Tunisian campaign... but then I still havn't played everything currently available... ahh... so much to do, so little time...

Hellcat,
I agree those would be great topics....I hope the poll isn't giving people the wrong impression...it isn't designed to rule out any battle or Theatre of Operations. It is simply a way for people who are looking for something a little different to give designers an idea of what they would be interested in.
I would never in a million years suggest to anyone not to design a battle or campaign they want to on the grounds that there is more interest elsewhere.
Look at me....the Pacific Theatre has the lowest score for interest on the poll and I'm trying to finish up my Tarawa SC regardless. :D
If someone has their hearts set on builing any scenario...I want them to build it...I love playing them all. So I hope the poll hasn't had that effect...it was not intended to restrict or set boundaries, it's purpose was to show other avenues that SPWAW fans think could use a bit more coverage.
Anyway, hope that clears things up.

Orzel, I agree and wasn't saying anything more than they would be good campaigns too. I'm more than happy with what's out and coming out on spwaw scenarios and campaigns! :)

Hellcat,
Thanks for understanding. Wasn't referring solely to your reply....there were one or two posts that seemed to indicate that people might be getting the impression that the poll was trying to "determine" what scenarios would be made.
So I just wanted to make sure that everyone understood that the poll was just an inquiry...and nothing more. ;)
