Look and Feel

Post by Anendrue »

I was just looking at Forge of Freedom and the "submersion" into the ACW period is pretty intensive. It would be awesome to have something similiar here. As MWiF moves closer to completition; I would like to know weather the windows will be skinned with a WWII motif. Additionally, will music from around the world be included and matched to the localization files. The screens are really great now but adding a background besides simple color could add a new dimension to the game. Is it too late for this?

Some discussion previously on music.

Notsure what Steve's final conclusion on the subject was! Some great ideas but concern over copyright though on use of historical songs, as I recall.

You'll probably want to check out this thread. It discusses a lot of this sort of thing.

Hope it's helpful.

I decided not to do a lot with varying backgrounds. Because:
1 - There is a lot of real information being communicated using the map. Except for some single decision forms, the visual information is dense. Adding much more historical flavor could well be considered clutter when trying to understand the 'facts' that are being presented.

2 - Switching major powers is a big deal in WIF. Sometimes you are making decisions on behalf of Germany, sometimes Italy, and sometimes Japan. That is crucial information and deserves an extensive effort to communicate the current "major power deciding" so the player doesn't get confused. Hence the changing background colors for each major power.

Short historical videos will be added. Matrix has a library of those and merely wants me to choose what to show when. That's a decision for early 2008. it shouldn't be hard to decide where or what. A couple dozen or so most likely, for major historical events.

Music and sound effects have received a lot of solid discussion in the forum. For sound effects, Matrix again has an existing library from which I can choose. David Heath has also said they can have additonal ones created if there is something special I want that isn't already in their library (I'll decide in early 2008).

Music is harder because of all the lovely songs we would like to have and the issue of copyright. I will leave that decision for last.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to the game. I guess it is time to make my reservations for Origins if it isn't too late.
