No-Yards

Post by long_time_fan »

Hi Dave,
I was wondering if no-yards is a part of the Canadian rules pack. I have seen in my games some pretty clear cases where defenders were inside the 5 yard halo, but no penalty was assessed. Minor issue though!
Thanks,

For those community members who do not know the Canadian football No Yards rule, it is similar to the American football rule regarding the space given to punt returners in order to allow the returner to catch the ball.  A No Yards call is a loose ball interference penalty.

In American rules, the space given is a one yard radius, but the return player may call a fair catch.  Under Canadian rules, the return player must be given a five yard radius to catch the football, but the return player may not call a fair catch.
