Game fails on start up

Have played WIP since the start and played it on my laptop (when travelling) and home PC. Have added all patches as time went on. Both games do not work anymore.
On boot up I get the credits for Matrix etc etc but when it would have switched to the original footage and ongoing intrduction -it stops and one is left with a blank dark screen. To get out need to ctrl alt del back to windows. Can you help please? Is this linked to windows XP?

Yes all windows updates were /are loaded when prompted by MS

thanks have since then found by deleting video files from video folder problem seems resolved. thanks
