7.1 Won't work for newb. Please Help!

So I downloaded 7.1 (I've never played any other verison so it was the whole game not an update) and it won't work!
The download and installation worked fine, but when I open (or try to anyways) spwaw.exe it seems like it's going to open for a second then nothing happens. I try with the one on the windows start menu the same thing happens. I try with the game menu thing and it just makes that machine gun sound and nothing happens.
What happened here? I'm very angry right now, so please tell me what I could do to remedy this and play the game.

What are your system spec's and operating system. Try running the game directly from the mech.exe file, this bypasses the autorun menu. Also try reinstalling the game over itself, sometimes not all the files get registered properly the first time.

Thank you for your response, I did have to reinstall it and now it seems to work fine. About 10 minutes after I posted my message I decided to reinstall it and see what would happen. I was very reluctant though because the installation took so long. But none the less thank you for your help.
