Finally! A good reference on USMC!

Post by Wild Bill »

Just as I was finishing the "Proud and the Few" Squad Battles game for John Tiller, I was given the suggestion of a new and very complete book on the USMC in World War II.

Its title is "US Marine Corps World War II Order of Battle."

Without a doubt it is an excellent parallel piece to Stanton's "world War II Order of Battle," on the US Army in WW2.

It is done by Gordon Rottman and published by the Navy Press. Its cost... ... $100!

But if you are really into this part of military history it is worth it! I have it and do not regret the purchase, though they had to pry that 100 smackers from my tightly clenched fist!

Over 600 pages of material with every theme you can imagine. And it covers both ground and air units!

He has a much smaller earlier version on sale at the Nafziger web site.

For die hard Gyrenes and those who respect them, this book is a "must have!"

Us Air Force guys have hard time reading USMC material, too many crayon pictures. $100 for a coloring book is quite much wouldn't you think.LOL :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thank you for that info, Bill. I've come to find out how difficult it is to get complete info on USMC TOEs. That was why I recommended Leo Daugherty's book (slim though it is) a while back. Given the price of Mr. Rottman's book ( two weeks' worth of groceries for my family!) , maybe the Military Book Club will pick this one up.

Highly recommended! My copy (from Greenwood Press, also $100.00) sits next to the computer.

A great reference!

So many choices...eh?

It is hard to get them all. The improvement in the quality of some books today make them all the more tantalizing.
