How will other periods differ?

Post by MPHopcroft1 »

Since I understand there are plans to offer other periods for AT, what I'm wondering (since I haven't seen the game yet) is how those scenarios would differ in design from the ones in the current set covering WWII? In other words, what would have to change if I wanted to make ACW or Napoleonic scenarios?

For modelling other eras I would think about:

- Importance of maintaining supply vs local supply
- Ability of units to carry supply
- Cost to enter enemy territory (zone of control concept)
- Relative strength of units (inf vs cavalry vs artillery)
- Movement and carrying capacity of units (pre-rail)
- Disease (might model as a loss of readiness)
- Entrechment (castles were tough in Mideval times)
- Staff command radius
- Unit recon ability

I would start by creating a unit set and using it as a period master file.  The game has a feature called combat sim that allows the first turn of combat to be repeated 100 times so you can get statistics on combat outcomes between different groups of units.

There is a ACW scenario on the scenario bank.  You can see how that period differs the more modern scenarios.
