treespiders CHS

Post by jumper »

Hi,
I´m just about to start a battle using Treespiders CHS mod and I have found that there is 150 Corsairs I in the pool from the beginning. It means that from may 42, the british CV can be equiped with these monsters. I didn´t find any info about it in the readme file. What is the background to make Corsairs availible so early?

thanks
Jumper

That's a good question, considering that the FAA didn't start to take delivery of the Corsair I until 6/43.

I will play allies so I could live with it very well.. But my oponent will certeinly ask for some HR about not using them till 6/43 and before agreeing to it, I would like to know if there is an intention or it was just typo.. I HOPE there is hidden intention.. [;)]

Oh, thanks for the info Terminus. I hope he is all right.
Anyway I have at least 5 months of game time and as it will be 2x2 game, it might take much longer IRL (if we ever reach it).

I hate to speak for someone else, but I'm sure it wasn't intended - it was on my suggestion that he split the Brit Corsair up into both the Corsair I/II & the Corsair III/IV model. (In CHS as it stands, the the FAA gets the III/IV way too early and it does make a significant impact game-wise.) I wanted him to bump back the availability of both models & he agreed.

Thought the FAA didn't get any Corsairs (of any kind) until Oct or Nov '43, though...

They probably didn't become operational until then. 6/43 was when the delivery process began.

Are you sure? According to this: http://www.vectorsite.net/avf4u.html it was Nov. '43 that the FAA received their first Corsair Is. That site's a secondary or tertiary source, though, and I certainly can't claim to be an expert like he who types voluminously. I'd be interested in learning more if you know of a better reference off the top off your head.

I have no other sources. Apparently the first squadron to receive them was 1835 Squadron, FAA whilst still in the US, in 8/43. Deliveries might have commenced in June, but there's still quite a while to full operational capability.

I have found something similar, with the differencem that the first unit to receive Corsairs I was 1830 Squadron FAA in June 43 in US

Availabilty of the Corsair I/II was set to 10/43 with 150 in the pool. Therefore unless I was mistaken the Corsair I/II is set to -rd (Research and Development) until it actually becomes available either in 9/43 or 10/43 which then frees up the pool of 150 for use.
