WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, this game is believe it or not a stock game. We're playing scenario #16. I've never done an AAR so I hope it's readable as well enjoyable. I look forward to all inputs. The house rules are pretty standard other than maybe no four engine bombers on naval attacks. This scenario btw starts on Dec 8 for those that have never played it ....
Dec.8
I prefer to stay and fight in most places until I feel their's not much else I can do.
On the West Coast everyone is loading up that can move. Once their loaded I will form them up into a heavily escorted transport TF. I will however not send the TF until I have a general idea where KB has dissapeared to. The ships up in Alaska are racing down to SF. As soon as they arrive the 2 C-47s in SF along with supplies will be heading to Pearl also. From Pearl the C-47s will be winging their way toward SE Asia.
At Pearl several ASW TFs put to sea and fighters are on CAP till I can hopefully sight KB. I've also moved part of a PBY squadron to Johnson Is. Will see if KB is going to head south where my carriers are heading at high speed to meet at Palmyra Is. My carriers will eventually be heading towards Suva and will see whats up then.
In the Phillipines all ships are heading south as fast as they can. Going to try and avoid mini-KB. All fighters have move to Manila and the B-17s are moving to Daveo as they repair. I'm, also pushing a SCTF towards Daveo also. Should min-KB show up they'll head south asap.
The rest of the SRA is be organized and rested as best they can. I'll take the wait and see approach for the next week.
Malaya has all baseforces heading to Singapore with the rest of the troops acting as road blocks for as long as they can. Other than one Assuie brigde everyone else will stay until I can't hold anymore. Force Z is heading to Batavia
In Burma I prefer to fall back to Akyab-Mandalay. I"ll leave one bf in Rangoon to help planes move north.
In China the SE Asia troops are on the move toward Mandalay. The rest of China is reorganising and all planes are resting.
For India all 7000 cap ships are heading south. I like to keep the 4500cap and 9000cap tankers in India. All the troops in Delhi and Rawalpinda are heading toward Dacca.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec 10, well another relatively quiet turn. The WC trasport TFs are starting to meet up at SF. In a couple of days they should put to sea on their way to Pearl. Just NW of Midway it looks like an invasion TF is 3 hexs out, 2 APs are spotted. Their's nothing I can do to stop this. I'm guessing KB is in support. On the other hand I can only hope it's bad intel and it's just a sub caught on the surface....the next day or so should tell. My carriers are on there way to Suva so their's not much we can do. The only "bright spot" is that I now how almost 60 P-40B & Es ready at Manila. Their's no sign of an attack on the Phillipines yet. Yesterday Truk had 22 ships and today it's empty....hmm
In Changsha we've got over 2000AV with another 1000 due to roll in a day or two. One squdron of AVG is on it's way to Changsha also. Going to see if we can interfer with his traing progam. At Diamond Harbor it looks like the commander didn't get the order to empty the harbor...err. Don't know how I missed them, anywho their moving out now.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec 12 on the the good side I found most KB. On the bad side it had its way with 4 DMS that were on their way back to Pearl. I wasn't really expecting KB to pop up just south of Johnson Is. Hong Kong is slowly falling and about 40 ship are sighted north of the Phillipines.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec12, the WC transport TFs are forming up. The 2nd Marine and 40th Inf Div are almost loaded on APs.
In the Central Pacific Pearl has finished repairs and their're now about 40 fighters on CAP. PBYs are spreading out to the islands to the south in the hopes of being able to track KB if it stays in the shipping lanes. Those APs that were spotted by Midway are moving further South. Still haven't figured out what they are. Kinda of doubt he'd have his Repleshment TF that close to and Allied island and that far behind KB.
In the Phillipines I sent 6 PTs to Batan Is. and lost two but it looks like they may have gotten a DD in return. Their're now 68 P-40s ready at Manila. PBYs have also spotted about 30 ships moving SW of Batan Is.
The Zeros are starting to take a toll on my Buffalos in Singapore and I'm not sure how much longer they'll be able to hang in there. Other than the Buffalos all other aircraft have been moved out.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec14, just as I thought my transport TF would leave SF I realize that during the regrouping one of the TFs was not set to do not unload. It will be a couple more day now till they leave SF....
In the Central Pacific the unknown TF has reappeard moving SW of Midway. I've gotta get those PBY pilots to stop drinking the anti-freeze. Two small supply TFs are geting ready to leave Pearl for Midway and Wake. There's a PBY squadron on Wake now. I may not be able to stop him but atleast I can see it coming. KB has now turned West. It looks like he's given up on hunt my carriers/ the shipping lanes. Both Lex and Big E are a couple of days out from Suva. They'll hook up with a tanker from NZ and refuel. Saras two days out from Pearl, she'll a couple of days if time permits. The North Pacific command departed on two APs for Alaska. Time to start working on getting Alaska a little more secure. The MSW Penguin is two days out from Midway, followed by about ten days out are the transports that started at Naga. There was no opposition in the middle Pacific.
In the Phillipines my pT TF force an IJN TF to retreat....look like they were stronger but okay. I've played this game since the week it came out and have never been able to get PBYs to attack at night. This is the first time I've personally seen it. Didn't hit anything tho. I've moved Houston, Boise, and 6 DDs up to Taytay. I'll have them stand by and see if we might be able to get them some action. I've also got 73 P-40B & Es ready at Manila. Going to try a different PBY squadron on naval attack and see if lightning can strike twice in the same spot...Batan Is.
At Batavia Force Z has been reenforced by two CAs. Right now it's all dressed up but no where to go.
In China, Changsha has 3750 AV so I think it's safe for now. The AVG/C squadron gave some Nates a good licken. I'm hoping this might draw some Zeros away from the Phillipines...time will tell.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec, 15 the Norht Pacific HQ is about a third of the way to Alaska. Two subs are also just about to Alaska. Right now there's not much to work with.
The WC transport TF drop more than I thought in SFso it's going to be a few more days till they leave. This isn't all bad because any subs he has between Pearl and the WC are going to start to run low on fuel. Also Iv'e got the first SCTF from Pearl with 1AV, 3BBs, 3CLs, and and ASW group about a third of the way to the WC. We'll see if this gets any subs attention. The 40 INf finally got underway and is about two days behind the 2nd Marines.
At Pearl the SR Vestal dropprd to 4 so it should start helping with repairs. Sara and company also pulled into pearl and will sitt a couple of days to rest...I hope.
KB has disappeared just West of Makin and Tarawa has fallen. Lex and Big E unfortuantely are day from Suva to refuel. I'm not sure that any ships will be hanging around Tarawa long and with KB vanishing I'm not sure it's a good idea to run back up to Tarawa.
Australia and the South Pacific are quiet....knocks on wood.
In the Phillipines he has to TFs try to land and it seems they keep dancing with my PTs. The Northern Phillipines took it's normal everyday air pounding. I also decided to push it and brought up Houston and company. I've got them set to react....fingers crossed. I've never pushed this far North before so this is a first for me. Since I still have almost 70 P-40s at Manila they should be able to cover the SCTF and hopefully keep Miss Betty away. The two B-17 groups are still sitting in Daveo flying naval search....and spotted nothing yet.
Malaya saw more troops hit the peninsula. The 5 Inf landed at Khota Bharu. I think the drive South by the IJA is about to begin in the next few days. In Singapore the first 4500 transport started to unload. Singapore is down to 30ish Buffalos.
China, Burma, and India were all quiet....perhaps before the storm.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Interesting move sending your 7k AKs south - I presume the long way round to West Coast USA?
I generally keep most in IO and send supply and fuel convoys down the east edge to keep Oz supplied (surprisingly I find this safer than the US-NZ-Oz route).
Another must is sending a dozen Brit AKs to SF and converting them to AR/AD/MLE for the Brit fleet (they get very little Auxiliary ships in stock)

Hi, thanks for the input Tallyho!. I"m in total agreement about the auxiliaries. I've had a couple of opponents make forays into the IO and while they've never gone very deep all I keep thinking of is Pzb taking India. The 4500s serve me well and as time goes one they start to add up. Depending on where KB and IJ LBA is located will dictate weather they go over the top or the bottom of Australia on there way to the USA.
Dec.16 a pretty quiet day across the Pacific. The 19th BG moved to Darwin and the 93rd BS moved to Singapore. They'll be on there way to Dacca.
In China I got what I asked for. Unfortunately the Zeros showed up a couple of days to soon. The AVG went on a swwep with only 40% on CAP over Chansha and they got chewed up. The fighters on the sweep got some pay back though and bagged some Nates. I've got a BF on the move up to Hengchow and when it arrives I'll bring up a second squadron of the AVG and see if numbers can help some.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec.17 well it's official, the IJN DD Ikazuchi has become a reef. My PTs in the PI are the first to draw blood. The PI and SRA had some other minor actions. We both exchanged torpedoes in each others tankers . My P-40s out of Manila bagged a few Betties that were trying to punch holes in my SCTF that's just West of Manila. I'm thinking of just using the SCTF for bait. With my P-40s flying CAP over it, the unescorted Betties will be easy pickens.
The rest of the Pacific was pretty quiet.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec.18. Japanese forces are starting to pick up steam. The Northern PI had two large TFs sitting off the coast and I decided to take a peek and go for a mid ocean intercept. The timing was right but his escorts did a good job of keeping my SCTF from getting a shot at the transports. The USN can be happy with this engagement. There's no way to stop the IJN but I'll give it my best shot to slow them down. The Amph assault is delayed another day. SS S-37 took 12 hits during the battle and is trying to limp back to Manila along with CL Marblehead.
The 19th BG/A just up-graded to B-17Es at Brisbane. It's old Cs were passed on to B,C units of the 19th BG.
The 7th BG has started it cross ocean trip to SE Asia. Its first stop is Palmyra Is. Sometime in the next three weeks I hope Dacca will be its home.
Malaya appears to be ready for IJA next offense. Five new units were landed at Khota Bharu. At Singapore the IJAAF keeps pounding the air fields and I'm not making much head way on the forts. As the BFs start rolling in I hope to start making some head way. Also a 16 plane squadron of Dutch Buffalos have joined the fight. Don't know how long they'll last..
Burma and India are quiet, My troops in both areas are still moving into there defensive positions.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec.19 on the WC two convoys finally get a move on. One of the is 96 ships and loaded for bear(300,000 in supply), the other one is forming up just South of SF and will be a hight speed AP transport TF, both will be heading for Pearl as fast as they can.
The PI finally see the IJA make a landing. It looks like to start he's landing at Lingayen. I don't see as yet anyone landing East of this so I'm think that he maybe using blunt force to get a base and then try and cut off everything to the East. All the units to the East are on the move to try an avoid this. CA Houston unfortunately ate a torpedo from Ms Betty and is heading back to Manila where CL Marblehead and DD Bulmer are trying to repair float damage. The CAP fell asleep I guess. The CL Boise and company are moving South heading for Daveo.
At Khota Bhuar the IJA has landed over 40,000 troops. I don't think it will be part of the British Empire for much longer. SS Truant fired off all its torps and she can claim a tanker and a damage to an AK. SS Truant is heading to Batavia for more torps. The 453 RAAF Buffalos have converted to Hurricanes at Palmbang...it will be a few days before there ready for combat. The units at Sinkep Is. have also been evacuated to Palmbag. Victoria Point has be evacuated except for the four engie bulldozers. There are 3 IJA units in Tavoy and they've been there three days but haven't taken it yet.
Hong Kong is still British but there are now 11 IJA units facing the garrison.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, we're back, my opponent had some on line issues but he's good to go now.
Dec 20, 1941.
At Anchorage the North Pacific HQ has started unloading. RADM Theobald is setting up shop. For the time being his first issue at hand will be to get supplies and start building up the forts in the NP command. His first reinforcements coming from SF are 21 days out....
On the WC the 27th Inf is moving up to SF. As soon as enough APs are gathered they'll be shipping to Pearl.
At Pearl CV Saratoga has converted to F4F-4s and is ready for action. CENPAC had decided to abandon Wake. 7AKs are going to nab the troops on there way by. While the IJ haven't made any moves yet, it's only a matter of time. The troops will be shipped to Midway. The 7th BG landed at Canton Is, next stop is Suva. Tarawa Atoll has and airstrip up and running. My guess is that will start seeing some flying boats in the next few days snooping.
The SW Pacific and Australia are quiet....
The main action today is in the Phillipines. Recon says that the IJN has landed almost 60,00 troops at Lingayen. The 31 RCT Inf and the 71PA Div Inf are engaging. Our troops to the East are starting to move West to avoid being cut off. The CA Houston, CL Marblehead, and DD Bulmer are still working on getting their flooing issues under control in Manila.
The rest of the SRA has been quiet. KB and Mini- KB are know where to be seen...
In the Malaya the IJA continues to expand. Khota Bharu now holds over 50,000 IJ troops. Singapore again took its daily air raid which is causing the Buffalos to dwindle fast. Tavoy also falls.
Both India and Burma were quiet with Mandalay completing its first fort level.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec. 21, 1942
A pretty quiet turn combat wise...no large battles. Both sides are organizing and the IJA is consolidating its foot holds in Malaya and the Phillipines. There was the usual air battle over Singapore which was a draw and the AVG swept over Wuhan and smoked 7 Nates for no lose. A note of interest is that there is no airfield icon on Palau. We'll have to see if that stays like that for a couple of days. Still no sign of the KBs...

Hi, Dec.22, 1941
Another relatively quiet day. Some of the high notes were, the 40 Inf Div has started unloading at Pearl, Wake has been evcauated with the troops heading to Midway, and an ASW group tagged an I-boat just East of Kendari. Last but not least the 27 Aust. Brigade along with a transport TF with 70,000 in supply has started unloading at Akyab.

RE: WOW STOCK....tanksone vs Montereytrench
Hi, Dec. 23, 1941
The BBs Tennesee, Pennsylvania, and Maryland have docked in SF. So starts there months of repair. The first IJN CV has been spotted at Truk by recon of a Hudson fron Rabaul. We'll have to do more recon to see if anyone eles is around. Both CV Lexington and Enterprise have docked at Brisbane. They'll sit for a couple of days unless the IJN moves South towards Rabaul. I'd like to move them up towards the SRA and maybe surprise aTF or two. At Manila CA Houston needs one more day to get the flooding under control. Tomorrow the three ships at Manila will make a rush South while trying to avoid any subs. Most of the map was also covered in thunderstorms making for many scrubbed flights.
