Is the AI affected by Fog-Of-War ?

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

Is the AI affected by Fog-Of-War ?

Post by KarlXII »

If I turn FOW on will the AI be affected of that as well or does the AI see all my troops anyway and it is only intended to make the game harde for the player ?

Well, having looked into the forums at Slitherine it seems the AI is not affected by Fog-of-War which makes it worthless to use unless you play against a human player.

Not really worthless since, as you said, it makes it harder (balanced?) for the human player.

I still think that if the only way to have a moderately challenge against a computer opponent (AI) is to have it play by other rules then the game isn´t worth playing at all in single player game or  the AI just isn´t good enough. There are a lot of good strategy games out there which have given a good challenge on default difficulty without having to cheat too much. I do not even consider myself more than an average player and still I have had no opposition whatsoever in my first campaign game. I have never lost a single unit and I have conquered almost all of USSR in november 1942 at default difficulty.

I have not played any that were really any good at default - give the allies more points with ai, because anyway they should have more anyway its not really far off the game is slightly more balanced for human play than 100% accurate vs. history, so a bonus is reasonable.  Try Moderate advantage, that makes for a fun game.

Bear in mind that the default level is easy just because we set it that way. We could have defaulted to medium or hard, so saying its no challenge on the default level does not really mean anything. What you are saying is that it is no challenge on the easy setting.... but that's kind of the point :)
