Unit upgrading

Post by finriswolf »

I see that some of my units are 'upgradeable' yet I cannot find a button nearby to upgrade them from the unit detail screen. How do I go about upgrading this unit?
Thanks so much!

If you've researched the next level of a particular sub-formation and your unit is in good supply then there will be a slider and a button to upgrade some or all of that sub-formation type in your unit. This will be on the detail screen when you click on a particular sub-formation in a unit.

it might be upgradeable, you still have to research the upgrade first.

To be specific, click on a unit, then click on a specific subformation, if you have researched the next or higher level on the left hand side on the bottom will be a box with a slider, it costs supply to upgrade and you can upgrade any number you chose, just remember outside a hqs, only 8 subunits can be in a Division/unit.

Purchased this game yesterday, and no real problems getting to grips with it so far except for this.
I am still not understanding how to upgrade units, despite reading manual and looking here there and every where in the game. Some of my HQ's have over a 1000 pts in supply, some only 200 but all have supply.

The Manual says:
6.1.5 Subformations
To the right of the Unit Attributes is a graphic display showing all subformations allotted to that unit. By clicking on each subformation, you will go to a new screen that will detail all information about that subformation.
At top left is a picture image of the unit itself.
Below this is a window that tells you what this unit can upgrade to (if it can upgrade). Upgrading costs Political Points.
Beneath the upgrade display window is a description of the unit.
Near the top is a very detailed listing of all the unit’s information. These are all described in section 13.7.

My apologies if I seem a bit daft.

I don't have the game, but based on what I have read here, we all know that upgrading a category, if you want to call it that, costs PP's, but I would have to question whether the actual units upgrading afterwards doesn't also cost PP's. The statement above doesn't cover both contingencies, so perhaps it is meant across the board, both unit and category. If that were so I suppose the next question would be how much PP's for each unit. If the game came with a pdf manual, you might also want to try searching for the word upgrade and see all the places it is used.

@Arckon,

Buy the researchfield first. For example if you have Rifle I and want to upgrade to Rifle II then you will have to buy the researchfield Rifle II first.

kind regards,
Vic

You must first research the next level which costs PP. To upgrade older equipment or units pick a division.

Once you have the Division highlighted it will list across the bottom the subformations. CLICK on one of these that you have researched a higher level on. IF the unit is in an appropriate supply RANGE of its headquarters on the now open screen on the bottom left will be a box that allows upgrade. There will be a slider. As you move the slider you will see the available supply and what you are going to spend on the proposed upgrade. Once you have the slider where you want it, hit the button to commit the upgrade.

In a Headquarters which can have more than 8 subformations just click on the line for the subformation you want to upgrade.

Remember in a division there are only 8 subformations. If you want to upgrade a subformation in a division with 8 subformations already present you must upgrade the entire old subformation.

Thanks all for the quick replies.
As I thought me being thick, screen was saying "upgradeable to Rifle II" I thought I had researched this, but had not, I researched SMG. Will research Rifle/SMG II and all should be fine.

Again thanks all.
