Moving Naval Units to sea

Post by gwnorth »

Alright I have tried the manual and tutorial but can not seem to find the answer.

I am playing a random scenario and so far so good in land campaigns but in trying one with a Naval Element I seem able to produce ships inside of Ports, but can not figure out how to get these things to sea.

Do I need them to have headquarters? I am missing something that is obvious but what? Is it because I produced land untits in the same town and all are assigned to a headquarters?

The Tutorial does not have anything on creating fleets if that is what we do...and the manual rather vague when it comes to the movement of sea units from port out to sea.

Thanks for any reply.

You simply create a new unit press "N" , then assign sea units to it and sail out the port [:D]
Notice that you cant strategic transfer naval units etc.

Ofc the new unit you assign has to be on a city square that is next to the water. If your building sea units in a city that is connected to another HQ then the sea SF the city is producting will appear in a unit in that city hex. Im not quite sure it this is meant to be but that is how it is.

Try play a random game where your starting city is the only city on a small island and IS not a port.

@two tribes,

there seem to be a small number of random maps where this indeed still occurs. making paratroopers is an option, but i will see if i can make sure no such starting cities are assigned anymore in next patch.

Actually for a player it is ok, I adjust with para and engineers for building ports, the problem is that when it happens to the AI, that regime never leaves the island. For a player it just means a few turns late gathering more cities and can make for an interesting battle situation.
