Map Request

Post by Largus_Means »

Having gone through all the map pages and seeing most of them are posts from almost a year ago, I was wondering for us readers if we could have a refresher course on all the maps around the world. [&o] Since most of them are absolutely stunning would love to see that latest, greatest versions of everything. And I understand the sheer weight this request carries, so please try and drop a few on us, especially ones that have been worked on since the massive map discussions.

Cheers

The map inches towards final completion. There are only 3 or 4 more hexsides to tidy up now.

This change was to make the Zuider Zee a lake instead of a coastal hex. As you can see the Afsluitdijk is a slightly difference type of canal (compare it to Kiel in the upper right corner).

For land movement, it will act as a canal. But for naval movement it will not. Naval units in the North Sea will not be able to enter the Zuider Zee. Land units in the North Sea cannot debark into the hexes east and southeast of Amsterdam.

Ah, my beloved Holland in all its splendour. Can't wait to defeat the Germans in 1940 and change history [:D]

Seriously, the map looks stunning. I am so looking forward to see this game come to life.

Hello,

I've mentioned this before but did not hear anything back.  On the Western Europe map, there is a rocky island directly east of the northern tip of Corsica that I presume to be Elba.  Elba was Italian-controlled at the time, but on paper Wif and MWif is part of Corsica/France.  I don't know if it would be tampering too much with the map, and I certainly know it matters not a bit in actual play, but maybe Elba should be moved just east of the hex so it can stay part of Italy?  Just throwing that out there.

I think Patrice replied to this, but just in case he missed it. We are making almost no changes to the European map, instead using a scanned in image from the board game for the coast lines and rivers.

Rob sent me 6 variations on Clear terrain which I have incorporated into the map. It relieves some of the monotony in the steppes of Russia.

Sure, this works !

A small question about that : Will the variations have specified positions, or will they be randomized at each game start ?

Any chance he does that for Swamp, Forest and Mountain ?

They have fixed positions. I also haven't bothered redoing all the coastal hexes so they will use just one (the original) Clear terrain texture.

I do not believe it is necessary for mountain or forest. And I am worried that playing too free and easy with the swamp terrain may produce combinations that make it look like a river exists where there is none.

Here are the Great Plains.
