That question was one of my first querys re BoA.

Although they both perform the same function -- turning militia into infantry/trained infantry -- in order for a training officer to train troops, he must be in charge of the entire army, i.e., the most senior officer.

A drill master doesn't have to command the army to train troops, i.e., (Von) Steuben. If you combine a training officer and a drill master, your troops will train even faster.

But there are some restrictions to training: the troops can't be under seige, and if you have many troops traning at the same time in the same town, the training will be evenly distributed among the unit's companies, which will slow down their transformation into infantry considerably; you want those militia trained before they disband!

[:)] Thanks a bunch.
Would one regiment with Washington and Von Steuben convert 2 companies per month?

Been playing British under the Jagger mod, getting ready to give the Americans a go.

I never counted the companies, so I can't be sure. Also not familiar w/jagger mod; I'm playing BoA at v. 1.12a.

Colonials seem to train better than Tory militia; I don't think you can turn tories into trained infantry.

Thanks, when I get over to playing the Americans I will test it out.  If you are interested in the Mod you can get it at:

I have played through 2 campaigns as the British against the AI and it is much more fun.  It does some nice play balancing.

Thanks again for your help.

They can, but they won't do the conversion every month.
