problems and how to

Ive been playing the CS games since the first incarnation of Eastern Front came out.
I bought the matrix version as soon as it came out.
However Ive had some problems ever since. I believe that the probs Ive had are the same as others seem to have had. The cavalry firing thing. Any scenario with cavalry is impossible to play as they just fire and fire and fire as nausium. the only way to stop it is either to end my turn or sometimes I have to use windows task manager to close the programme down.
Also I dont seem to be able to get the dynamic campaigns to work, particularly in RS. they all say there are no units available, no matter which org I choose.

Ive used the auto update on the Matrix load screen to update my prog. Then Ive downloaded v 1.02 from this website and tried to install that. It doesnt help though.
Is there a particular way Im supposed to install it or something. Ive got JT CS installed in D:\War\TalonSoft\Matrix Games\John Tiller's Campaign Series.
Do I just install the update into that location?
