Noone requested a Next/Prev Unit hotkey yet ?

Post by PDiFolco »

So I'm the first to request it ! [:D]

Another really cool change would be to have all the non-HQ units in "Move mode" automatically when selected (ie the way most games work), but it's certainly harder to do. [:'(]

It has been mentioned here and there in various threads, but it deserves its own thread, so good post!

I'd like Next/Previous Unit to work both in General View Mode, after you've selected a unit, and also in Move Mode if possible.

And, if possible, it'd be great if it cycled through units queued by class. Suggested hierarchy: HQs, Land Units, Air Units, and Naval Units, except that if I currently have a Land Unit selected, it cycles thru the queue from that point.

Yes would be nice. Small improvements like this would be great stuff for patches.

Yes, it would be nice, BUT you could accidently move a unit by a miss-click and without any redo function you could not make
it undone. That´s why i prefer to select the unit and hit "m" for moving.
As a additional way that move mode for those who want to use it would be ok.

If there is one thing that pisses me off about this game, it is this aspect of the interface. It is way too easy to accidentally move your units, given the "left click - move button - left click" method of moving units. I've lost track of how many times I've moved my forces away from the front, because I still had the move button active, when I went to check out some unit in the rear. I understand not having an undo function, both for cheat prevention and due to the way recon works, but have found myself cursing its absence. How about a request for an undo function that is active in the case of no hexes revealed? Maybe include a warning in the case of PBEM games...

Oh...and with respect to a next/previous button, I would never use it. I like to click on and check out my units, and micromanage to get the best forces in the right place at the right time, and that is dependent upon the situation on the ground, as I see it. Relying on some OOB, or closest unit, method of determining which unit of many should be the next one never satisfies my need to fiddle...[;)]

I'd really rather not have this happen. I often click on unit to examin, and I'd really rather not go into move mode automatically. I'd end up making moves I really didnt want to make.

thanks

OK, I see the point about not having  Next/Previous Unit Hotkeys while in Move Mode (due to accidental clicking).

But for the General Unit View, having Next/Previous Unit Hotkeys in addition to the current deliberate Mouse-click method really would be helpful to those of us who have wrist, neck, and/or shoulder problems with repetitive mouse-clicks. Heck, put them over on the Num Keypad: either "+" or "-" or 4 and 6.

Well, noone would be forced to use next/prev hotkeys, move mode or not, what's the problem ? [&:]
"Default" move mode is more tricky... Personnally I much prefer to have it to just get rid of all those stupid clicks or "M" keypress, but I undestand some won't like it. Maybe the game could offer this as an option ?

@seille

I agree. With no undo I'd rather keep move mode like it is. I already accidentally move 2 or 3 units a game because I forget I'm in move mode and click on a different unit. [:D]
