The 2007 CFL Season

The 2007 CFL season has begun.

All of the teams in the West are undefeated, and all of the teams in the East are winless.

Edmonton and Winnipeg had an absolute barn burning air show that ended up in a 39-39 tie!

Rookie Tyler Ebell ran for 132 yards on 16 carries for Edmonton, while former Grey Cup MVP Ricky Ray passed for 5 touchdowns.

Bomber Kevin Glenn passed for 416 yards. Winnipeg receivers Stegall, Edwards, and Armstrong had 7 receptions each and combined for 320 yards and a touchdown while setting up another 4 Charles Roberts rushing touchdowns.

I was at the Hamilton-Calgary game and saw the Stamps put on a nice show on both sides of the ball. Hamilton's running game with Lumsden was impressive though.

It would be fun to take a trip up to Winnipeg for a game.
 
Winnipeg isn't that far from Minnesota, but gas is getting to be quite expensive for a long trip north.

Im an Alouettes fan, in Florida.....no idea why either. I liked Mike Pringle and have just followed them since.
I wish the CFL was more visible here.....rather watch that most days than the NFL...forgive the blasphemy, but I just get bored with the style of play.

I have been a fan of sorts of Edmonton and Winnipeg for a number of years.  Edmonton because of Warren Moon and Winnipeg because of Bud Grant links and being just north of the Minnesota border.
 
Since ESPN switched from CFL and Aussie rules over to NFL coverage, there has been so little CFL coverage in the States.  That is really bad news.  Maybe the VS network should try to get a contract to show some games each week or ESPN2 should try to be like the old 1980's ESPN.

I agree. They have entire channels for the most ridiculous stuff, why cant someone pick up CFL games. For that matter, I would also like to see some of the indoor leagues, in particular the UIF.

Argo fan here , though i pretty much like all the teams . Here in the san francisco bay area , we can watch a comcast station in sacramento that shows at lease 1 game a week , sometimes more . The broadband feeds not bad on comp , saw some free ones of last yrs games . Looked ok /

Yes, I am, CFL_Fan_7.
I'm hoping this will be the year, but they gotta start moving the ball upfield. Three yard flat passes aren't going to cut it.

 
Hamilton has been outscored 14-67 and is 0-2 this season.  The Tiger Cats play des Alouettes at Hamilton next.  Montreal is also 0-2, but they have played better than the Ti-Cats and have a team that went to the Grey Cup each of the last two seasons.
 
Coach Ron Lancaster has stated that it takes a while for a team to learn the playbook terminology under new coaching.  Do the Tiger Cats have a good enough team to spot the other Eastern teams games while the system is being learned?

Actually, it's Charlie Taafe that's the coach now, but seeing as there's been no tangible difference between last year's and this year's version of the Tiger-Cats, so one could be forgiven for thinking Lancaster is still in charge.
 
The Defense can't stop any one, and Jason Maas has 210 total yards passing IN TWO GAMES!!! I'd like to see what Timmy Chang can do in charge of the offense, what with all the NCAA passing records he set at Hawaii, but regardless who's leading the charge for the Tabbies, they have to attempt to stretch the opposing defence. Throwing quick slants and flat passes are fine to soften up a defence, but once you've got the deep backs playing up closer to the line, you gotta take a shot downfield. So far, the Tabbies have been completely unwilling to try anything outside of high-percentage short passes. Joe Paopao may be gone as the Tiger-Cats Offensive Co-ordinator, but his playbook lives on.

It is 421 yards in three games now, but his 1 TD to 2 picks is pretty poor.  Ray and Bishop each have 7 TD's in three games.

He is a product of the spread offense.  One would think that the spread would make for an easy transition to the CFL, but it has not.
 
The Cats are now 0-3, and that's a big hole to climb out of already this season.

Just got home from the Toronto-Calgary game. A somewhat boring game until really the fourth quarter when Calgary exploded for 20 points. Mike McMahon looked like the rookie he is and I think the Argos waited too long to put Damon Allen into the game. They didn't put Allen in at QB until early in the fourth.

One of my friends sent me a copy of the BC-Calgary game from August. WOW! What a marvelously entertaining piece of football. a lot of questions about the heart of the Stampeders looked like they got answered that night.

This reminded me of the days of the 1982 NFL strike when NBC showed CFL games to fill the space until there bwas a settlement. That national exposure might have been directly responsible fro Warren Moon, the four-time grey Cup winner in Edmonton, getting a shot at the NFL that would take him to the hall of Fame.

I remember that too and remember that the Stampeders were featured two weeks in a row on NBC. But they stunk in both games getting hammered something like 34-9 and then 52-15 in the games. Funny thing is the Stamps finished 9-6-1 that season but completely stunk in their two games on NBC.

A seriously monster Riders/Bombers labour day classic game today. They don't call it a classic for no reason.
 
A QB keeper by the Riders (wearing their fantasic looking 1973 throwback uniforms, complete with correct colour helmet and logo!) with only 6 seconds left in the game gives them the 31-26 win. There was something like 9 or 10 lead changes in the game.

I was cheering for the Bombers. I still don't think the Riders are as good as their record shows. They are just hot right now and will cool off by October.

That is correct.

There are two divisional winners and four wild card teams.
