Errors, Various & Plenty

Post by Frozen Stiffer »

Hello, Shaun!

I had been running v1.60 for some time now, as I had found that it was stable and problem-free for me. However, the lure of September call-ups pulled me into the v1.70 world (and its related hot fixes) as did watching the AI put in a starting pitcher too many times; enough that he ended the year going 22-13. I finally gave in and have updated to v1.70b. Regretfully, I'm starting to experience problems again.

This first one is a "reappearance" of one that I experienced when I had upgraded my association from v1.51 to v1.60; I cannot see Team Transactions. For some odd reason, when I finally started the next season, the error went away, but this was before the upgrade to v1.70b.

Currently, whenever I click on it, I receive the error shown below. After I hit OK, the game locks at the "Loading, Please Wait" message and goes no further. C-A-D gets me out, but even that takes a bit. I'm not doing anything special, unique or bizarre-- I simply start the game, QuickLoad my association, go to my Front Office, then select Team Transactions.

This next error happened only once, so I don't know if it's a moot point to bring it up. However, if it happened once, it could happen again-- so I figured it wouldn't hurt to share.

I had this player in my minor leagues who I wanted to look into, check out how he has done in the couple of years he's been there. I opened his player card as usual, found what I was looking for, then closed the window. A half-second later, the window came back up... but nearly blank. There was no picture or any info, just a handful of text (I can't remember exactly what it read). I immediately got that tingle in my gut telling me this was a bad sign. Worried, I saw that the "X" to close the window was responsive so I clicked it and the window closed. All seemed well.

I closed the minor league window and then the game hung. I was in the grayed-out version of the Front Office, the way it looks when you have another active window "over" it, yet there was no other window. I opted to click on that "X" and received the "Are you sure you want to quit PureSim Baseball 2007?" prompt. I hit YES and was greeted with the following error:

I tried to duplicate this one and have not been able to. I'll keep trying.

Hello, Shaun!

Another problem that I've seen in the past and simply didn't get around to reporting was the absence of a "0" in the win or loss column of a pitcher. Well, that didn't make much sense. Let me explain it a different way. If a pitcher is 1-0, it's not showing "1 - 0" it's showing "1 - [object]". Whether it's replacing a 0 in the win column or the loss column, does not seem to matter. What I find is that this only seems to be affecting one of my associations, not both. See below:

To add to the list above, I found something very interesting in my real-player replay association. I wouldn't consider this serious by any means, but certainly something worth noting. When there is a player that accumulated stats in the majors, they are listed along with their respective career's stats. However, if they never made it to the biggs and thus accumulated no viable stats, they're appearing in the list, but they're not separated. Observe:

I finally had an "unexpected error 91" in a managed game. It just so happened that my team had the only scheduled game of the day. At the game's end, the error box popped up, and while the sound continued, the game froze.

I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL out, and restart PS. At that point, the stats were updated and the next day's games were displayed.

I'm thinking for a given regular-season day, and you are managing each game, the program looks for the next scheduled game. It one doesn't exist, if gets stuck in a loop.
This must be a very rare occurrence.

For the record, it was Friday the 13th of June 1941. [X(] Brooklyn vs St. Louis. Real schedule used.

KG,

If I remember correctly, that is the time that I had my error as well. It was the first game of the season and the only game scheduled. At the end of the game, I got caught up with the error as well. Maybe that is the problem Shaun.

Thanks for verifying that. We've caught a minor program glitch. Does it require a hot fix? Dunno, since this particular set of circumstances rarely happens.

I wondered about that too, but if you look the player that has stats under him are HIS !

I think the AI runs randomly until it finds stats then puts them after the player that accumalted them. Notice the second section well 2 players before it posted stats. !!

Shaun,

With that same association, I'm also experiencing three issues in the HTML Almanac:
  • In one case, even though the association began in 2004, the Almanac lists association info as of 2008 going forward (which I THINK is when I upgraded from PSB2005 to PSB2007). If I look at a player's card, it shows pre-2008 stats, so it's not like those were lost.
  • Also, when I look at players (by first letter of last name, for example) it repeats entries. For some reason, it shows players more than once, with the occasional exception. I cannot seem to find a pattern in either the duplicated entries or in the singular entries.
  • Finally, some of the info links take me to a "Web Site Not Found" type of screen, just like when you open your internet browser and you're not connected to the internet.
I've tried rebuilding the Almanac with the "Only What Has Changed" option as well as the "Delete and Rebuild ALL" option, both with no luck. I even deleted the folder with the Almanac info and did it again from scratch. Still no luck.

Would you like me to post a screen shot of that too or will you just look for it when I send you the association?

FS, I have the "duplicate entries" problem with a couple of my associations, and it goes back a long way, probably to 1.60 or even earlier. Not only do most of the players have duplicate entries in the player index, but those that do all have career stats that consist of all zeros. Players with single entries have their stats shown correctly. I also have tried rebuilding from scratch with no luck, same as you.

Hello, Shaun!

Alright, this is the last grudge before I send the association, I promise. I've had a problem since one of the more recent upgrades (I think it was from v1.60 to v1.70+). It's an interesting twist that I've tested with various runners all with the same result.

I can't steal.

As I do not believe that PureSim is on a moral or ethical high in which it had decided that theft is wrong and as such has forebidden me from stealing, there must be something else there. I've tried stealing with one of my runners who usually did quite well (speed 86)' I was so unsuccessul that I even signed a free agent with a speed of 93 and I still could not rob a base. Granted, I know that pitchers have ratings and catchers have ratings that play into this sort of thing. However, I should at least still ONE base, no? What I'm trying to say isn't that I can't steal a lot or that I cannot steal often or even that I rarely steal. No. I CANNOT STEAL A BASE. Period.

Again, this is association-dependant, as I have had no issues stealing with my Marlins replay or any other association I play. Enough talk. I've sent the association.

Be gentle...
