America Defiant Scenario

Post by Trick37_MatrixForum »

I'm playing the America Defiant scenario, which I just downloaded, and I have to say (with respect) that I'm not too thrilled with the unit set-ups. Here are my issues (and I say this with the utmost respect to the game's designer(s)):

1). American, and even European (ex-NATO) armies, do not have "all armor" forces (or armor with some engineers and artillery) for armor units. In fact, they have a mix of armor, infantry, infantry carriers, engineers, etc. (These units are called "brigade combat teams.")
2). Ditto above, but with regard to mechanized infantry units---it's not all infantry and infantry carriers. There are, indeed, tanks in the units.
3). How can the American partisans have M109 Palladin self-propelled artillery pieces (let alone 36 in a brigade)?
4). U.S. Marines also have M1A1/M1A2 tanks, Light Armorered Vehicles (LAVs), Hummers ("medium scout cars"), and tracked amphibious carriers

That's what I've seen so far (I'm only on turn 2 at this point). Again, no offense to anyone. [:)]

Well, depending on the size of the unit, you'll often see more than just tanks in armorued units and more than just inf in inf units.
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

Yea, it isn't right.....just like the ending to the Sopranos (which I just saw.....). This scenario needs to be re-done, including with the Asian units just sitting there and not invading (are they trying to make this easy for me to defend?).

That's they way it's supposed to be (it's called "combined arms"), but it's not in this game. The U.S. infantry divisions have just about all they need, except for removing a brigade's worth of M2 Bradleys and replacing them with a brigade's worth of M1 tanks. The armored divisions are missing the infantry component, as well as other support components. In addition, the U.S. Army isn't divided into "districts," it's divided into divisions, corps and armies. This needs to be fixed to make it realistic.

I've also seen something else that's not right---units coming up through Mexico (including, I'm assuming, Mexico, and central and south american countries) do not have M1 tanks. The ONLY other countries in the world that we've sold M1 tanks to are Kuwait and Saudi Arabia (don't get me started ont hat BS, either!). Mexico has a medium-sized army (about 300,000), and the very few tanks that they do have are in no way American-made. Most of that army is "motorized" (i.e. Hummers and the like). As for the armies of the other countries (to include int he Carribean), they do have armor and their armor is mostly Russian-made.

I thought you were trying to indicate that the scenario had it the other way around. My bad. :D

Yeah, it would be nice to redo - something along the lines of Invasion America, or Red Dawn? Maybe take this on, after the holidays...

Egypt, no (they were going to, but decided against it), Australia, yes. Central and South America, no (but the scenario shows that they have them).

Will this be an AAR, or should it be moved to Scenario Design?

Combat Vehicles

[edit] Main Battle Tanks
  • M1A1 MBT (880) (see Note 1)
  • M60A3 MBT (1,700) (see Note 2)
  • T-62 MBT (500) (see Note 3)
  • T-55 MBT (390) (see Note 4)
  • Ramses II (260) (see Note 5)
According to Wikipedia they do.

*Edit: Ok, fine, they built them. But Egypt still has Abrams.*

They're the watered-down version....not the same one the USA has. Sooo....technically yes and no.

Good stuff. I did a couple of papers on nanotechnology for my university studies (Criminal Justice AND Info Systems Management classes). Oh, the possibilities that this technology has.....
