The Enhanced National Ratings

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

The Enhanced National Ratings

Post by KG Erwin »

I really have an issue with this. You guys wanted to make an even playing ground, but historical reality gets thrown out the window.

Whether we like it or not, some countries were poorly-led and had poor training.

To go politically correct runs counter to everything that SPWaW was supposed to be.

Now that the ENH mech.exe has these steroid-pumped-up ratings, is there a utility that can convert the ratings back to the historical 8.4 standards?

You wanna play as the Italians, Rumanians, Hungarians? Ok, then use the ENH dose of ratings viagra.

For the record, I do NOT subscribe to the notion that historical accuracy should be sacrificed for the sake of someone's PBEM game.

Wow. There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to begin. I suppose with your insulting tone, which has to go. Consider that an official warning.

Next - since the numbers were literally pulled out of thin air at game design, and were, by most players opinions, unplayable, they were boosted to make the minor nations at least take a burst of MG fire before the entire force routs. Their numbers are still low compared to the major nations (I know, I have tried most to see if they will fight somewhat), and their leadership numbers (which you mentioned) are lower still in most cases. They still get their clocks cleaned rather easily.

Since one set of arbitrary numbers was exchanged for a second set of arbitrary numbers, I find it odd that you can claim one was 'historical', and one was not.

Also, if you will recall, most of the numbers were changed based on solo players' complaints, not PBEM players.

Utility to convert back? Yeah - uninstall the mod. Use only parts of it, such as the graphics and sounds. Or make your own mod. Either of these should solve the problem.

After all this time you say this??!!!
[&:][&:][&:][&:]
IIRC You were on the frickin team when we did all this!!!!
[:-]
here is a quote form one of your posts BTW
"No problem with me, Orzel. As of late, I've joined the majority who believe that some of the minors ARE under-rated."
tm.asp?m=1072235&mpage=1&key=Ratings

and yet another quote from you
"So, what do you guys want? A level playing field for everyone? Who's to say what the "correct" values are? There is no such thing."
tm.asp?m=1061664&mpage=2&key=Ratings

So in those posts you said the minors were rated too low, and also who knows what the correct values are, there is no such thing....yet here you say the exact opposite
[&:]

The poorly led and poorly trained countries still reresent that, their ratings are still below the Mighty Marines and the other major players, but now they do not start retreating and become pinned before a shot is even fired.
This has nothing to do with PBEM either. Not sure how many PBEMers out there even play with Bulgaria or Yugoslavia...ect etc....This had to do with anyone that wanted to try playing as a mnior nation, be it PBEM or vs the mighty AI.

Historical accuracy?
Yes I thought I read in a history book the other day the Romanians troop experience was actually 45 as opposed to 55.
[8|]
WTF has got into you?
[&:]
Revert back to your 8.4 mech if you do not like it.

I DO have a specific reason why I say this.

I've played out a couple of Finn vs Russian battles in December 39, and have gotten slaughtered. Is it my tactics? I think not.

What's happened here is that the Russians are now rated better than they were in real life.

Arguably, then, the new ratings are generating ahistorical results.

As for YOU, Goblin, don't you dare threaten me. I have every right to voice my opinions here.

Hmmm -- I didn't know that going against the party line was grounds for banning. This isn't the Depot, is it?

Its not what you said, its how you said it. It was not a threat - you will not post in an insultive manner towards others, especially when they have sacrificed so much of their time and effort for you and other gamers. You have a simple choice to make. Play with ENH as it exists, or don't. Easy enough.

If you wish to continue to pursue the matter in the manner that you have chosen, do so at the ENH forums (follow the link in Alby's sig) - it won't be tolerated here. I am sure they won't put up with it any more than I will.
