UV in Australia

What are the arrangements for people to buy UV in Australia? Normal distribution?....or the dreaded mail order?

Well, that's roughly $63 USD, which is $10 more than what we have to pay including shipping ... but there's no tax for most of us (only certain states have to pay tax) ... how much is your GST? Most of the difference is probably in taxes ... and whatever other difference can probably be attributed to getting the game from the US to Australia! Just wanted to point out you're really not paying much more than we are here in the US. :)

I have a plan

Post by Frug »

I'm not sure about this but....

I am going to the US in 2 weeks. I'll be there for about a month and I will CERTAINLY be keeping an eye out for UV. Now, if I see it....and buy it.....what if I bought a few and sold them here to people without the outrageous postage fee from the US?

My luggage space is limited but I understand that there is no printed manual with UV so it shouldn't be a bulk fest anyway.

Just a thought. Hey, for all I know it could be very very illegal.

I am a bad person.

It is a nice thought Frug, but with the current exchange rate I would only be saving about $16. And I would have to wait for you to get back. BTW which part of the US are you going to?
And which part of Oz are you from?

Remember, that's 116 Australian pesodollars. It's about seventy cents in US money. ;)

I dread to think what it'll be in Japan.

Well, think what it would be in NZ pesos! :)

Japanese money is easy: remove four zeros, round up to the nearest whole number, consider if there is a T in the day of the week, bow three times to the East and then just hand over the largest bill you've got, plus your first-born child.

Helpful? :)

Hard to place value on good game

Post by Ramjet »

Interesting to read up on the cost of this game. I bought Pacific War back in 92 and I believe I paid $50 US for it. I still play it ten years later. I also have a box of about 100 games that I played for maybe one of two months. Each of those games cost me $40 - 50 US. So, if UV is anything close to being as good as PACWAR, I will gladly part with my $57 US (including shipping) and will save lots of money in the long run because I will be playing UV instead of going out and buying other games that look good but ultimately wind up in the attic.

Ramjet, all of your points are valid, and I have NO DOUBT that I will get value for money, but when you are used to seeing games priced at $80, it comes as a shock to see one priced at $116. I KNOW that UV will be an all time fav game......it is just the psychological shock of seeing the price over the $100 mark.

Just order it from Chips & Bits, mate - postage to Japan is a reasonable $11.50, so the whole thing'll be about $62.00 US. And they only take about a week to ship, too...
"You one of those right wing nut outfits?" inquired the diplomatic Metzger.
Fallopian twinkled. "They accuse us of being paranoids."
"They?" inquired Metzger, twinkling also.
"Us?" asked Oedipa.

yeah but

Post by Frug »

Its not that I have a HUGE problem with paying AUS$116 for UV...its that if I don't like it I am quite out of pocket. I'd love to put my hand on my heart and say that UV will be an all time fav and that'll make it worthwhile but I've had some big disapointments in the last few years for games so I'll play the 'wait and see' card.

I'd like to see more updates from Matrix on features of the game. I don't mind the hard sell!

Only on the proviso that you are a nerdy version of the very gorgeous Cameron Diaz. Then sure, you, Elle, Claudia are all welcome.

My wife will understand.

Ah, now that's a good thought! I *was* toying with the idea of getting it while I was going through Oz in September.

Thanks. :)
