Protectorates

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Protectorates

Post by jspickernell »

I am not sure I fully understand how to create protectorates

Where there is an independent (white) province I have successfully created protectorates by increasing their goodwill.

If I have an independent province that I have captured (and so it becomes one of my own provinces - coloured the same as my home provinces) how can I turn that province into a protectorate - is it possible?

Thanks in advance

Well, you have to free the province first and then raise its goodwill. Why do yo want to have it as protectorate anyway?

Protectorates can be more use than your own provinces. They don't contribute to waste and they often come with their own armed forces ready to go. From various other threads that I have read on this forum I had thought that there was a certain way to liberate one of your own provinces and then make it a protectorate. It seems from what you say however that the only way is to liberate it then raise its goodwill by the usual means. Thanks anyway - at least I know now.

I just happened to be reading this in the manual. Don't know if it works, but you could look into it.

"Conquered countries can also be made into protectorates from the Player Details screen; see the Diplomacy Advisor section in the Basic Advisors chapter for details. This is only possible when a nation controls the capital province of a country."

Does anyone know how to merge protectorates?
I am playing as the Prussians and have the conquered province of Banat and the protectorates: Pest and Transylvania. I’m trying to make Banat a protectorate and merging it with any of the other two (idea being to create a southerly foreign corps in that neck of the woods)
I go to diplomacy advisor-nation-Banat-form protectorate. A list comes up with Transylvania and curiously Hungary: highlight it (I‘ve tried both), click okay. The next round Banat appears as a protectorate but the merger hasn’t occurred!!

PS
I agree about Protectorates being often better than Provinces. I formed this gigantic German Army with minimal hassle out of troops from Westphalia; Hesse, Brunswick etc.
