Chasing Down the Enemy

Post by Veldor »

Ok I'm still a n00b at this game.. Currently playing the African WW2 scenario. Anyone have any tips.. Playing as the Axis and I seem to do well except it is soo hard to actually destroy units. Not enough units to hold a front so the stragglers end up slipping behind. What is the correct thing to do? Leave them and move the front lines forward (we are talking in some cases just a single rifle unit left in it) or try to chase them down and mop up?

Keep in mind that an enemy unit cannot retreat into your controlled territory, and use that, as well as the fact that retreated units do not exert control over adjacent hexes, to your adantage. In other words, herd, corral, and slaughter.

You can also organize some small "mop up" fast units to get rid of pesky routed stragglers [;)]

If units to slip past you and they are badly beaten up, just leave them and then organize small mob up units. As they run out of supply they lose all combat power and cant move, that way they dont pose a threat. Only thing you should watch out for is resupply by air.

BTW this is problem of routed stragglers is *much* better handled in AT than in TOAW, where I've always been upset by those seemingly impossible to crush Armored cars or halftrack unit remains that wrecked (sp?)  havoc in your supply lines and darted to critical hexes !!
Thumbs up again to Vic on brillant system ! [&o]
