Maybe you should give this a try

Post by PanzerMike »

I am currently playing SC2WAW, made by Hubert Cater. It contains a campaign called Battle in Russia 1941-1945. I am having a blast with it.
It is classical IGOUGO and corps level. Graphics are ok I guess, certainly much better than WIR. The game contains a full blown editor and is thus very moddable. It is really great fun.

It may just be your cup of tea and since a succesor to WIR (hurry op Gary) is still a long time away. Just a tip.

Dont bother, it sucks. Think axis and allies.
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

I respectfully but strongly disagree. There are multiple campaigns at different scales. The campaign I am referring too, is restricted to the eastern front only. It is at corps level and the map is quite large. It also includes the Finns, Rumanians, Italians and the Hungarians. Certainly no Axis and Allies, completely different scale. Apples and oranges. Have you actually played this campaign????

I have been playing eastfront games since 1981, when I bought Eastern Front 1941 for my Atari 800XL. I can tell the difference between Axis and Allies and the Battle in Russia 1941-1945 campaign included in SC2WAW. I like it. It may not be the best thing since sliced bread, not the be all end all of strategic eastern front gaming, but I recognize a good game if I see one.
