Is this game worth the $$$?

Advanced Tactics is a versatile turn-based strategy system that gives gamers the chance to wage almost any battle in any time period. The initial release focuses on World War II and includes a number of historical scenarios as well as a full editor! This forum supports both the original Advanced Tactics and the new and improved Advanced Tactics: Gold Edition.

I have lurked longer than most have lived I suspect but just to add to the above comments, THIS GAME IS BLINDINGLY GOOD!!!
I never played Peoples Tactics unlike many here and fought (and died) with interfaces of War in the Pacific and certain other Matrix Games but this game is intuitive and extremely challenging for someone like myself who loves solo play in its operational challenge rather than because the interface is inpenetrable.

So far i have only tacked the random maps (which I find a joy) as the historical scenarios deserve long sessions which my wife prevents [:(], but her foreign holiday approaches soon so I will book some leave from work and give WW2 some attention.......

All in all great job by the designer.

Thank you all so much for your comments and for twisting my arm to buy the game. I bought the game earlier but have only had time to play the tutorial and started a random map.

The game is very similar to Peoples Tactics in many ways and I am hard pressed to figure out why Advanced Tactics is so much better than its predecessor - it just is! I was worried that it wouldn't be different enough from Peoples Tactics but now, having started to play Advanced Tactics, it is the polish applied to the similarities that are most appealing to me. As Bennett said, you just have play one last turn.

Looks like this one will be on the hard drive for a long time.

PS. When I tried to register the game I didn't receive the confirmation email to log in from Matrix. I am playing version 1.0. Is there another way to get the update?

On the top of this page you can see a button called "Members", just register yourself there and register the game you've purchased, now you can login to the members area and download the patches you need.

After playing AT for several days now I can state with certainty that I prefer AT to TOAW. That said I never really cared for the whole movement/cost system in TOAW it was just too tedious a mechanism for me. I am really enjoying AT.

I've got to jump in here and say that I believe it is well worth the money. I've been trying for over a year to get into TOAW III, but I just couldn't connect with it. This game is great. I did the tutorial (not much, but it gets you started) and then tried a small, land-based random map. I have a lot to learn about the fine points of the game, but this game is elegant simplicity. It is fun to play, and the pieces seem to fit together so well. I'm not a great player, and rarely PBEM, but I may just have to try it with this one.

I bought the game with the intention of doing the WWII scenarios, but I had so much fun with the random map I will probably stick with that for awhile. There is so much available - how to create and use units, air and sea ops, etc. It's been a long time since I have had this much fun with a game.

Thanks Vic, and congratulations on such a great game.
