Jap. Autoconvoy Tankers clustering around Ponape?

Post by PetrOs »

Hello,

I have a strange problem, that some japanese autoconvoy TFs (only tankers/escorts, no AKs so far spotted) are going to Ponape and staying there! So approximately once per month I have to go there, make them human controlled, and send them either for Osaka or (as I usually do) for some oil....

Its CHS 2.08 over the 1.81?

Don't use autoconvoy. Ever. If you do, expect strange things and/or disaster.

Well, I know ;)
But its usually working for the japs, for flowing some supplys to the island garrisons

What do you mean under disaster?

In CHS Ponape is in the same slot as in stock (688), so this behaviour should happen in stock, too.

Is Ponape selected as a destination for your autoconvoy system?
Are the TKs sitting there full or empty?
does Ponape have a huge stockpile of fuel?

If it is then remove it and the TKs won't go near it - it does mean you will have to manually send supply convoys though

a good point for a patch would be to eliminate the auto convoy routine... would solve the problems of many people...[:D]

Oh - many things can happen - i.e. - you don't get supplies or resources as you expect, so your economy collapses... the AI sails the convoy around the globe via the West Coast of the US -resulting in its anhililation... the AI decides it will take control of your LCUs or your carriers and so they are destroyed (not supposed to happen, but it will if you have the AI set to control anything).

Take your pick - any or all could happen.

Ponape has 1 oil, 1000 fuel, 5000 supplies and 0 resources available.
Tankers are sitting empty there.

Generally, the system is working well, for remote garrison supplying. It has most of the under-12 knot AKs now. Resources and supplies for the metropolitan area are brought in by the 13-15 knot AKs, and war area supplies are served by the fast AKs (16+ knots). I now have virtually no tankers left on auto control, they are assigned to manual groups..

Escorts are not needed, as I have about 70 enemy subs already killed, so not more then one of them showing up in the japan-taiwan area, and not more then for 1-2 turns, when its bombed and DCed...All but 3 army bomber groups are there on ASW, as well as the navy reserves (2 Liz and 2-8 Betty Daitais)...
Most of the subs got killed in the bases however... air raids on manila/brisbane/sydney/soerabaja/colombo took a heavy toll on them.
Generally, last effective allied sub attack is about 6 months ago...

Problem could be that Ponape has no resources in stock.  The TK may arrive there and are unable to pick up any oil/fuel because of lack of a resource point.

Yeah, but why are they going there? I would understand it if they would bring something there... but it produces no resources, no oil... and the tankers are coming empty.

Pure speculation but maybe the AI just sees the 1000 fuel there as being superfluous to local needs and therefore available for pickup - sends the TK and then they get stuck because of no resource points.  Try manually shipping in some resource points and see whether anything alters.

Well, I already fixed the problem by switching all tankers to manual mode. I am planning to get rid of the autoconvoy anyways, switching back to the hub system.
