One of them is called "Night Strike From Malta" and tells the story of Fleet Air Arm Squadron 830, armed with Swordfish TBRs and flying from Malta to interdict Axis shipping to North Africa in 1940 and 1941. Maybe a lot of you guys aren't into Mediterranean War history, but I'm English and my dad and 2 uncles were involved in Malta in 41-42 so I am!
The point is this: 830 sqadron flew their torpedo bombers AT NIGHT to attack Axis supply convoys in the Med; they used torpedoes with Duplex pistols (combined contact/magnetic exploders which worked very effectively in 1940!!!!!), and by early 1941 were using ASV radar to home on targets. Flares dropped from the opposite side of the target from the torpedo carriers were used to silhouette the targets. They were, at times, unbelievably successful.
What if 830 had been at Henderson Field in late 42? Maybe I'm biased, but these guys were very good at what they did, and might have helped derail the Tokyo Express now and again........as long as there wasn't too much of a headwind, when they might just have flown backwards!
It would be magnificent in the extreme to have this kind of hypothetical possibility in UV, just to try it. Mind you, I wouldn't want to slow the game's production at this stage......no, er, on second thoughts forget I ever said anything........please..... just release the game......I'll dream the rest!!
