Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

There's no screenshots there or further info on the scenario...would like to know more about it. Could make up my mind to buy it.
Anyone mod the graphics yet? They are really hard to look at...

Don't know much about that scenario... ACW not my thang...
As for mods there are two different Nato style counter modes and one really good terrain mode. Check the "Mods" threads here for pics. There is also an AH Blitzkreig original board graphic mode in the works.
Very moddable game...

Really hard to look at? Really easy to look at. Have you seen those counters for World in Flames...yikes.
RE: Can this game model American Civil War?
It's not going to be a very good tactical simulation but it could do a decent job as a strategic game.
RE: Can this game model American Civil War?
Screenshot that shows just how versatile the game can be...

Well how else does one game easily support everything from WW2 to ACW to Fantasy Battles? And with randomly generated maps and a great editor on top of all that?
Take a look through the mod forum section.. Quite a few screenshots of a variety of graphical improvements.

Are you interested in graphics or a powerful game engine ?
I would play this game even with early alpha graphics because of the great game engine !
Yes, i would still use Vic´s own graphics. The actual are better, but who cares ?
This is a wargame....
And only the flexibility of this wonderful engine allows graphic mods or scenario´s in completely different era´s.
That should be a reason to buy.

Both.
To play the game one must "LOOK" at the screen, and I want to see graphics that are easy on my eyes, and engaging as well...i.e. I want good modern looking graphics for the price of the game... otherwise it doesn't matter how good the engine is. The price point of this game is way off IMO.

Hey George,
Just FYI, don't let the graphics put you off and IMHO this game is worth more than the price for the gameplay alone. This one is a real gem and if you take a look in the Mods section you may find a graphic set more to your liking. It's certainly not 1980s CGA, but the default graphics are designed to be high visibility as far as differentiation, which also makes them look somewhat plain.
Regards,
- Erik

LOL....it is a very easy screen to "look" at...I don't get your deal. I've looked at the former "battlefields" game and this game is a lot easier to "look" at then that one. I played Korsun Pocket and a few of their other games and just could not play them for long as the graphics just made it too annoying to play. This game has a nice clean simple "look" and it's a lot better than most of the others.
RE: Can this game model American Civil War?
I actualy laughed out loud when i read that comment on the graphics being 1980's. Well its a hex based wargame, usualy they dont come with DX10 graphics. Besides give me a game of this scale and scope that do it better then AT and have comparable graphics.
I agree the maps of of the DB series are pretty, and it would be nice if AT could get up to that standard but so far im very happy. Besides it can actualy be modded in. A guy in the mod section is already working no a new tile set.
Im just happy we have AT or we would be stuck with TOAW which truly look ugly and have a interface that will give you numb fingers in no time.
On the price. Well i own now 12 matrix games and i admit sometimes the price is a bit steep, but i have to say i bought AT without feeling the least bit bad about it. Its great value for money. I know one thing ive already put many more hours into it then i did Call Of Duty 4 which maybe not sports DX10 graphics but then still some pretty good DX9. And it only lasted me 6 hours.

Geo,
When I first started looking at this thread (after the game was released), I was a little put off by the graphics, not quite to your extent, but a little). After Isaw a couple of mods in the works, and read more about the game editor, I decided to give it a go.
I'm glad I did, it's a very flexible game. The random scenarios work really well. An excellent investment.
I had fully expected to download and install the nato unit graphic mods and some of the terrain mods that are being developed as soon as i had finsihed going through the manual. But you know, the unit graphics and the terrain graphics for the game actually do a pretty good job of conveying the necessary information. I get disappointed with map terrain features, when it becomes hard to tell what terrain your units are in. But with the standard graphics set for this game, the unit and the terrain are pretty clear and obvious. And they're still what I'm using (thogh I still might switch them out for some variety).
In any event, I think you may miss out on a good game if you let your first impression of the graphics disuade you from getting.

Rick / Erik,
Thanks for your replies... I've located Nick69's mod and it looks very nice. Other than that there's the AH Blitzkrieg mod...ummm, any others? Still Nick69's mod is very nice and may just sway me...maybe. [:)]

1. All you need for a wargame is basic graphics. It's the other things - design, AI, flexibility - that are important. Graphics comes under "trivial" to a true wargamer, as long as they're functional then they're good enough.
2. To be able to support the graphics you want a game would need to have far higher sales than a niche wargame. You want pretty units, go buy and play Civ IV - it's one heck of a game and it has great graphics. But it's not a niche-market game, and this is.
3. I bought the game. IMO it is cheap at the price. Buy it, install the NATO graphics mod and the Blitzkrieg map mod play it and guess what? It looks just fine. If you don't think so, see you on Apolyton.

Steely, you're right I'm not a true wargamer...[;)] I guess playing wargames for 32 years, having worked for the DOD working on maps, beta testing games (not just at Matrix), scenario designing, and compiling a very large private map collection and military history research material does not qualify me to speak my opinion. Must have been thinking like a consumer...[:D]
