Worst Random Starting Position of all time!

Post by Veldor »

OK could this game possibly give me a worse starting location? Road Level was 3 on this beautifully generated random map. I'm thinking this can't be topped as the worst starting location of all time! [:D]

Thinking of opening with Scouts and Engineers but wondering how much this is going to seriously set me back on town grabbing especially since I'm on an otherwise large and mostly open continent.

Yes, finally! After 21 years my super-bad luck found a different victim. [:D]

Ah, your victory will only be that much more special in the end. Like when Switzerland would rise to world leadership. Or would crush and conquer France. Yeah, I'd be fine with that, too. Go ahead and show that cheater AI what it means to be a man!
Don't be scared - I'm almost sure that I just want to play!

The one city is just 10 away, easy airborne drop. Build a new Headquarters there and have all production in future go there except from start city. Only a couple turn set back. No worse than being put on an Island with no other cities and in most cases better.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

You've at least 2 cities in para range, which have roads to lead AC/motor inf to the others.
Sure you'll lose say a couple turns compared to the case you've been put in the middle of the map, but it's not a big problem imho - maybe except if you play pbem vs humans.

Someone else posted a bad somewhere in here and said he started on an Island with no coastal city so couldn't build a navy.
His solution was building a large army of paratroopers and he said it quit well for him.

Paratroopers are a good idea but unfortuneately I didn't think of that at the time. The scout and engineer plan worked out alright. Once the scouts crossed the mountains I gave them trucks (I think level 1 Scouts then move faster?). The engineers built roads quick enough the other problem I had was one of the AI+ players rapidly sent a large naval assault to that capital around turn 12. Having the infrastructure in place let me mobilize a Command up that way pretty quickly. The engineers also helped a lot with the heavily forested area to the south where I've now all but eliminated one AI+ opponent and am a good way towards a second.

I could tell I was behind for a few turns when Medium Tank IIs came at me. I still had Light Tanks. Fortuneately I was in great supply so I switched everything to Production Points for just one turn and was able to go to Medium Tank III, Rifle II, and shortly after Mortar III and Machinegun II. The dual war has been too brutal to spend much more on tech since.

But so far I'm definitely holding it together against 6 AI+ Opponents...

How about this one: one, crummy, tiny island in the middle of a hostile ocean.

But a great starting position from which to learn. My first random game & I am having a blast!

Dale H, you have a tough one there. [X(] It is a cool map though, I kind of like the portless islands. It forces you to use paratroopers to try and capture a port city and get a foothold on another continent which I see you have already done. You are going to have alot of fighting to do on this map and I see some tough battles on the horizon but you can bet it will get even more fun.

Thanks, Warspite3.

Yes, I built a couple of infantry to start then engineers to build an airfield & a temporary port then it was transport aircraft & paratroopers next to get the port city to the south of me then I could start building my navy. Already some opposition has shown up & I have repelled an attempt at an amphibious landing by the AI+.

I am having some fun!
