\WitP\witprec.exe
is the Trojan Horse TR/PSW.Banker.gez

I don't find that Trojan by google, but I don't guess that's usual, no?

Ja, ist das bei Antivira normal? Ich hatte bislang noch nie ein Problem mit WitP und Antivira.
Kann ich das ignorieren?

Kaspersky 7 doesn't report anything.

To me it looks like some AntiVirus programs are a little bit aggressive with their heuristic algorithms.
If you can try to switch those off (temporarily) and see what happens. Some programs also allow you to tune the heuristic algorithms to be more or less aggressive.

Also make sure the file "War in the Pacific.exe" or witprec.exe - whichever your AV program reported to be infected - is restored if your AntiVirus program has disabled the file (depending on the program either deleted, renamed or moved to quarantine).

Summary: I don't believe WitP is affected in any way, it's just some over aggressive Virus Scan programs.

I have the same problem - the latest virus definition files for Avira AntiVir detect witprec.exe as a trojan. Selecting "ignore" solves the problem for me - otherwise you get the 999 error.

Apparently, different versions of AVG do different things - i hit IGNORE and WITP crashes anyway with error 999.

There have been other false positives for Matrix stuff lately, with the TrueUpdate thingy registering as badness...

For AVG Anti Virus go into Resident Shield and Disable it , then WITP should launch.

Yes it does - but does it leave you open to attack? Hopefully, firewalls should keep stuff from getting in, but...

i have an idea that i am going to try...

OK - this SEEMS to work... if you have AVG and hitting "ignore" button still gets a crash, try this:

Turn off AVG resident shield.

Lauch the game - load your turn.

Turn on AVG resident shield.

Once loaded - the game appears to work ok...

I use Norton and have no problems.
