RHS EOS 055, 065, 075 - what's the diff?

Post by 1EyedJacks »

Hi all,

I C 065 in the handbook but no reference to EOS 055 or 075. What's the difference in the three?

Sorry - I C now that these are different versions of the same mod - hence 075 is the latest/greatest...

In the beginning - when the RHS Manual was written - there were no Levels of RHS. We were using revision numbers like 2 or 3 - and there was only one set of scenarios. All of them used scenario numbers in the 50 range. Period.

Eventually, a number of people, Cobra most of all, wanted an enhanced map system. I was afraid to try too much at once, and I wanted to see if ideas I had might work with WITP? So I created an "enhanced" set of scenarios, and since we already used 50 range scenarios, these were put in the 60 range - with 1 to 1 correspondence. Thus, RHSCVO was 50 or 60; RHSBBO was 52 or 62, etc. The only difference was the map system: 50 series used Andrew Brown's Extended Map system, 60 series used a slight variation of that with a single map edge shipping track. It worked brilliantly - so well it has fans to this day - and I have been unable to stop supporting it! But as originally concieved, 60 series was intended only as a test, and was to "go away" as soon as we did "the real deal."

Once 60 series got working well, we moved on to Cobra's dream: add Madagascar. That was very hard - there was not enough room. Along the way we wholly revised the Aden mini map and the Panama mini map - and access to all the mini map areas was made far more sophisticated - to give the Allies strategic options and both sides operational options re Panama and Madagascar. Following the logic that we started with 50 series scenarios, and added 60 series, these new ones were 70 series - again with 1 to 1 correspondence.

In order to be clear in writing, I coined the shorthand term Level to mean "scenaio group" - 50, 60 or 70 - I called them Level 5, 6 or 7 - and the real significant difference between them is the map system. ALL of them share the same ship art. All of them share the same aircraft art schemes, but there are two of these: one for EOS family and one for CVO and BBO family. But the LEVEL does not affect the art at all - only MAP ART changes with level. At the same time, the pwhex file also changes - a map is really the pwhex file - and the art is to help players know what is in what hex?

There are differences between levels - for the Allies - OB wise. The Allies get more ships in 60 than in 50 series, and more still in 70 series - to serve the longer shipping lanes. The Allies also get more units of all kinds in 70 - and the Axis also get Vichy units - to use on the Madagascar mini map.
