Desert Fox Question

Post by Krotos »

I have recently received copies of all three of the currently offered mega campaigns and am eager to get at them. My copy of SPWaW is current at 7.1, and am having a problem installing Desert Fox. It seems to want to reinstall the entire game onto my computer at version 5. My question is this: can I simply copy the campaign folder to my 7.1 directory (where the other two are)? If I do, will it operate correctly? I really don't want to waste drive space on two complete versions of SP and assume that this will work. Before I istall it to 7.1 though, can anyone tell me if it will work correctly there?

As a side note to matrix -- you need to post a FAQ that explains how to perform such an install, or change the format of DF so as to allow it to automatically install (if it will work there) in versions of SP greater than 5.0

Any help will be appreciated.

The only way I found to do it (and someone smarter than me will surely correct me) is to load MCNA (Desert Fox) with version 5.0 or 5.1, whatever it wants to load. Then, load up Watchtower or MCLV and let it overwrite your 5.X version with 7.0 making sure those two went to the right place. One of them (I forget which) wants to try to install itself in a subdirectory below the MegaCampaigns folder and the game can't find it. Then, get the 7.1 patch. You probably also want to get the patches for each particular MegaCampaign.

BTW, if you're playing MCNA, watch out for "lost leaders". You may notice several scenarios in that some of your units have no leader name and their rally, armor, infantry, and artillery ratings are VERY low (like 20's). That's a "lost leader". Anthony made a fixing program that's on Prado's The Armor Site that should be able to fix the problem for you.

Oh, and I agree with you. Matrix would do well to spell all of this out somewhere more convenient for the recent customer like a FAQ.

KShinner, you are absolutely correct! In order to allow the MCs to perform correctly, it was posted that they should be downloaded from their CDs in the following order:

1. MCNA
2. MCW
3. MCLV

Of course, the corresponding patches for the MCs should be downloaded after all the MCs have been installed to optimize each MC's performance as well. (Or at least that's what I think I read somewhere in the Forum.)

As the prof stated, that was the preferred order of installation when both WT and LV came out prior to the 7.1 patch release because the LV CD had a newer more updated Norway OOB that had been specifically designed with extra features to work with LV that would have overwritten again if WT was installed last. Now that the 7.1 patch is released all the OOB's were redone anyway so it doesn't really matter much. Installation order:

1. MCNA
2. WT or LV full installation (it has to be full to ensure the installation replaces the older sound files that MCNA installs, especially critical if MCNA installs a SPWAW earlier than 5.3(original release had of 5.0 has older sounds, the newer releases had 5.3 which containg the newer stereo sounds))
3. 7.1 upgrade patch
4. MegaCampaign patches specific to each Campaign. LV patches 1.1 and 1.2 are the only critical ones required for any Mega as they are directly related to gameplay. All other are niceties that help enhance your gameplay experience.
