Think I finally fixed the I can't run such and such on my system.

I was able to finally just put Win 98 and Win XP on the same system.

Loaded 98 on my secondary partition and then reloaded XP.

Now I either pick 98 when I start computer, or the default XP loads after waiting on my choice after 5 seconds.

Which means I will just settle for having my cake and eating it too. Although while running 98 I will have to accept that 98 sucks, and XP (which would be a better OS) is currently taking some time off relaxing.

Not a PC game, but would make a good one: Jutland. I played two games as the British commander with an umpire to compare maps and coordinate battles. Of all the games I've played, this is the one I miss the most.

On a more hopeful note, I noticed on the underdog site, that Allied General is no longer a free download option.

The other ones are there though.

Followed a link to who has Allied General

got this link

http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/fivestarpr.htm

Might check them out.

I am willing to risk a few bucks to get a correctly loading no oodles of zip files copy of the game. And they bundled the others together as well.

Who knows, maybe someone was thinking of me.

Games that we miss

Post by Mrtyphoon »

For me it would be Crusade in Europe had it on a commodore and loved it when the allies got stuck out in the water. But another thought is the Games that never were. I read in a magazine once of a game called New World Order world war two strategy on a grand scale it just never happened. And then there's the fabled Road To Moscow the real mouth watering type games just never seem to appear:(

As I was PCless back in '93, that is probably why I was unaware that there was a PC game named 'Jutland'. I wonder if there are any used or 'warehoused' coppies available? I'll have to check out Amazon.com. (All ten fingers crossed.) :D

Thanks for the info!

You will like the V Victory games. Also check out D-Day the Beginning of the End while you are there at Underdogs.

Normal wargame, but you get to fight out battles in a miniatures environment if you choose the delay.

but im busy with taking caen now, had it surrounded from3 sides only SW side remained open for the germans + hill 112 isstill in their hands. Assembling plenty of armour to take it now about 2 SS divisions [my guess] remain IN caen. an oppertunity i dont want to let go.

Actualy Eric it was a P.C. game, I have a copy of the DOS game
myself. It was very cool back then. Now it just sits in a plastic
bag with a lot of other old CD's I will never play again! ;)

The one I surely miss is Decision in the Desert, one of the games in the Microprose's Command series (or whatever), like Crusade in Europe (also fun) and the third game based in Vietnam (which I actually play on my Nokia Communicator via the C64 emulator).

Decision... was fun, showed actual combat strength and losses (the # of men, tanks, planes) - none of that 15-4 (combat value - movement value) crap there. It plays easy, is way ahead of its time (mid to late 80's), better graphics than HPS games today, and won't last a year to finish. A great "quickie".

Just haven't found another North African campaign game to be as much fun...
