Range Circles

Post by darknite »

I understand that there will be some distortion of range circles in West Pac but the margin of error can sometimes be in the realm of 5-10 miles in Air-to-Air engagements. This occurred several times in the West Pac Tutorial scenario.

Yes, there is some distortion in circle drawing in Westpac (due in part to the sheer size of the map), but fortunately its only a visual issue, and doesn't affect actual engagement ranges.

That was indeed what I experienced. However in fast moving air engagements click-ranging is a pain compared to watching for a/c to cross the 'red line of death'! [:D]

As some of your diehards know, I've fought long and hard against unnaturally 'round' range circles (and always lost the argument).  Many hours have been spent making them less elliptical than they should be.  Rest easy, one day they'll be ellipses as they should be (but I they'll still have some innacuracy where latitudes are extreme).

Any chance of having the circles displayed as accurate ellipses?

You might expect to see something much less round, like the attached screenshot, in a future patch.

with the first(?) patch, you will be able to play custom battlesets.

For example

a south atlantic BAttleset covering the Falkland war.
+ a Baltic Collection Battleset covering remakes of old Scens dealing with the baltic.

Of course! However, there is that small detail of making $$$$ instead of gaming! I hate when that happens. [:D]
