Bizarre Battle Result

Post by Venator »

I launch a devastating assault on OPFOR lines in the course of which I lose one Stryker damaged and one man killed. Enemy losses are well over 50 killed, wounded and captured. They are forced to withdraw after only just over a minute of play. Hoorah!

Except I am informed that because I did not capture any victory locations, I suffered a total defeat...

I'm surprised that this sort of thing wasn't picked up before release. Not that it's game breaking but it is a bit irritating.

I think the Close Combat engine takes Victory Locations in the calculation more than casualties. Did they withdraw or just a truce? Because if they withdraw due to low morale, all the victory locations are awarded to you. Maybe there's still a straggler that you need to eliminate to make the withdrawal complete. But if you are sure that you got them all then it's a bug.

No Truce, they fled. And in other such battles all victory locations have been handed over as you say.

I had a game today with Scenario 01 where I wiped the entire enemy force off the map and spent 10 minutes scurrying around looking for victory points only to end up in a draw. I think we should have an option to have victory points displayed during play. It seems to me you would go into battle knowing what your objectives are. Not hunting around for them after you've destroyed the enemy while under a 30 minute time limit.

Then it's a bug alright.

I totally agree. That option is definitely necessary to balance the outcome and improving the gameplay.

I think I know what's happening now. When the enemy quits due to low morale, the VP's aren't handed to the winner. The VL's are instead turned to neutral. So if you did not capture any VL's, you will not have more VL's than the enemy... So the result is a loss. I don't recall if this is the case in CC5. But CC5 has a campaign map.

The CC5 engine calculates victory through territory...
This game shouldn't be based on the same rules.
