RE: 18th January 1945
Hi Capt/Mike,
Faber will have recieved ZERO oil from Sumatra and Borneo for about 4 months now ( I have approx 800-1000 planes in the Malaya/Borneo region). He probably only has 20ish TK's left in total and has no chance to recover any oil from Sumatra or Borneo. I think his economy is in ruins if i'm honest. Don't forget the effecitve USN Sub campign that was conducted sank many a TK. I'm seeing a decreasing number of planes in combat now (for example the numbers of fighters defending his Capitol have fallen from 400 to about 65ish per day now). Recon indicates most of his ships are holed up in Port Arthur or Seoul etc.....
Only Faber can give you clarity on his economy but this is my feel on ther combat i'm seeing.

Hi all,
Malaya/Indo China -
A fairly quiet day in this region as Allied soldiers at Singapore shell the enemy hard and prepare for an attack to come soon.......
Allied Tankers are driving up from Hue towards Hanoi to clear the road for the future Allied army.
B29's pummel active enemy airfields at Nanning.
----------------------
SRA -
Almost no activity at all in this region as we wait for a supply convoy to join the fleet at Kuching before heading out to Taan. CV/BB fleets are at Jesselton to move north and to react to any enemy incursions.
Airfields and strength grow at San Jose and Bacolod. PG Saiko Maru damaged by a torpedo attack near Leyte.
Enemy I-Boat conducted a successful attack on DD Eaton east of Jesselton breaking her in half. Other ASW vessels reportedly damaged the bugger in return.
---------------------
CentPac -
Kavieng, Talasea and Salamaua fall to the Allies today.
Further massive strikes on Tokyo's industry severely damage HI, Resource, shipyard and Engine Production (1100 VP's are scored today!) No enemy opposition in the air. Tomorrow the aircraft industry will be targetted.

Hi all,
Malaya/Indo China -
Singapore was the focus of battle aagain as men and machine hurtled themselves against the enemy. Over 2000 casualties and 7 tanks knocked out but more enemy territory was claimed and 6 Forts remain......
A close series of air battle were fought over Taan today. During the morning 119 x B29 attacked the airfields escorted by 40 x P38J and 21 x P51D. The escoerts tangled with 50 x Frank and 33 x Randy. 35 enemy fighters were shot down for the loss of 9 x P38J and 1 x P51D. One of the Randy's took out a B29 too.
During this attack it ws noted that some Japanese ships were in the area as well so 11 x Invaders and 14 x Mossies took off from Camranh Bay with 46 escorts (P38J/P51D). They encountered 25 enemy planes on CAP which did well in shooting down 7 x P38J or the loss of 2 x Frank and 2 x Randy. 2 x PC were left heavily damaged though by 4 bomb hits.
--------------------
SRA -
A quiet day overall other than the sinking of PC Showa Maru 3 with 2 torpedoes off Leyte.
--------------------
CentPac -
SS I-41 was detected and despatched 300 miles north of Saipan today by 5 x DE.
Tokyo's Aviation industry was hit hard with virtually all A6M production ceasing to produce by the end of the day (700 Strategic Points) We rest for a few days before smashing the next city. Japn must be reeling now..........

21-23rd January 1945
Hi all,
A 3 day update.............
---------------------
Malaya/Indo China -
More of the usual here with the Allies massing at Saigon and Camranh Bay. I am going to start marching north soon to 'loosely' coincide with the invasion of Hainan.
Singapore has been subjected to a mass of air and land bombardment by the Allies. The Land Lubbers go in again tomorrow.
The Japanese conducted a sneak strike the other day. They had flown in a Frances Daitai to Sabang which attacked the port of Georgetown on 21st Janaury. They were clearly going for the heavily damaged Fletcher Class DD repairing there but no hits were scorted. B29's put Sabang out of action the following day but no enemy planes were there.
-----------------------
SRA -
Invasion forces left Kuching on the 22nd January for Taan. Combat vessels left to join them on 23rd January.
Allied air power has sunk another PG near Leyte, an AP near Taan and Ventura's attacked Manila port from San Jose hitting 5 Auxilliary ships.
------------------------
CentPac -
Most of New Guinea is under Allied control now and the fleet is still resting and repairing at PH. As things stand an invasion of Japan is not necessary since Strategic Bombing will bring Japan to it's knees within 2-3 months. We'll see how it goes.
Gumma will be attacked by B29's tomorrow. Target is the extensive aircraft industry.

Hi all,
Hi Bruce - I'd say so. Probably a 70-80% chance we will. I think i'll have AV within 2-3 months.
----------------
Malaya/Indo China -
Allied forces at Singapore report it's closing to falling ant the enemy is in tatters but still fighting hard:
Ground combat at Singapore
Allied Deliberate attack
Attacking force 133179 troops, 680 guns, 1487 vehicles, Assault Value = 3097
Defending force 63797 troops, 385 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1097
Allied max assault: 3029 - adjusted assault: 4515
Japanese max defense: 819 - adjusted defense: 654
Allied assault odds: 6 to 1 (fort level 6)
Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 5
Japanese ground losses:
1338 casualties reported
Guns lost 17
Allied ground losses:
2305 casualties reported
Guns lost 18
Vehicles lost 22
My men will rest a few days before going in again.
In Indo China air support has reached Hue and 50 x P51D's and Thunderbolt II's are now stationed there. The main allied army at Camranh Bay has begun it's march northwards towards Hanoi.
I now have 3 main armies of men in the region - Singapore, Saigon (recuperating) and Camranh Bay.
------------------
SRA -
The fleets have met on their way to Taan. The attached screenshot nicely shows their position and the situation in Indo China.
Allied air played it's part today. Ventura's marauding over Manila managed to sink SS I-181, ML Tokiwa and a Barge. 4 other ships were hit hard (AR/AP).
TBM's from Bacolod sank 2 more PG's near Leyte.
Enemy ASW PC's damaged SS Pollack 180 miles SSW of Hong Kong - 9 x near miss - 22/24/0. Damaged forward tubes. Back to Kuching for now and then Singapore when captured.
---------------
CentPac -
Emirau Island (north of Rabaul) was taken today.
Saipan's B29's hit Gumma's aircraft production hard today with clear skies, escorted by 200 x P51D and no enemy planes were present. We plan to go back tomorrow to finish off the aircraft production there.

Speedy,
If the opportunity arises, don't overlook the benefits of basing 2E bombers from Tori Shima to strategically bomb Japan. Multiple daily strategic strikes on Japan from different Allied bases can get you the VP for an auto victory before the end of April.

Hi all,
Hi Alfred - good to see you again. Thanks. The only prob with Tori is that it's garrisoned by probably 2 x Rgt worth and by the time I had the men in place and the island developed it would probably be a month or so before the final fall anyway. Looking back on it I would/could have gone for Tori about 2 months ago IF there was a struggle going on for victory still. As it is vicotry is now a formality.
-----------------
Malaya/Indo China -
The Taan invasion forces continue NE, nearing Camranh Bay, and are still un-detected.
Heavy air bombardments by the Allies at Singapore and a B29 raid against Pakhoi destroys 27 x Zero on the ground.
2 x AP are hit with bombs near Haiphong by Camranh Bay air (did I say that I love A26B's....fantastic bombers).
------------------
SRA -
A routine day here except 9 x Sonia evaded the small Corsair CAP and attacked shipping near Bacolod from Leyte lightly damaging AK Chief Charlot with a bomb.
Manila's port was bombed again and a few AR/AK's were hit...no confirmed sinkings.
SS Saury damaged AP Suwa Maru with a torpedo east of Kiungahan.
-------------------
Gumma is hit hard again and only a few small scraps of aircraft production remain (probably about 15-20% of the pre-bombing total). The B29's rest for a few days.
Thursday Island is invaded by 53rd USA RCT men to find a Japanese NLF still there. I will retreat and re-invade with the whole RCT in time which will complete the re-conquest of all of the the South Pacific except Rabaul and PM.

Hi all,
Malaya/Indo China -
Allied troops are moving towards Hue and 120 miles to the SE Allied fleets move towards Taan. They are spotted today by enemy recon. Intel does NOT indicate a mass movement of enemy planes into the area. I'm not concerned with enemy interference since I have 4 x BB (2 x KGV class) on hand, 100 x Corsair + 100 x P51D from airfields to cover my forces.
The time hascome for another assault on enemy positions at Singapore...we go again tomorrow.
SS Saury has a poor day IMO. She missed ML Nuwashima in the morning and only damaged ML Tsugaru with a torpedo in the afternoon east of Kiungahan.
-------------------
SRA -
SS Becuna was lost with all hands today 240 miles SW of Takao...enemy PC's were the cause of her demise.
Manila port was hit hard again.
-------------------
CentPac -
Quiet over here today.

Hi all,
Malaya/Indo China -
Singapore was attacked again and more heavy fighting by both the allies and Japanese sees me get 4:1 odds and reduce the Forts to level 3......my men rest for a couple more days before going in again.
Taan has been invaded. The RN have provided sea bombardment and US/UK CV's are patrolling offshore providing aircover. Few enemy planes have been seen overhead. Probably about 60 in 2 days. They have heavily damged 2 x AK with Kamikazi's though.
Enemy mines and CD fire have been heavy (as per norm!) sinking 6 x MSW and damaging another 10 ships. About 2/3 of the men are ashore though and face 2 x Mixed Bde's a a Tk Rgt:
Ground combat at Taan
Japanese Bombardment attack
Attacking force 19202 troops, 222 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 463
Defending force 39038 troops, 196 guns, 265 vehicles, Assault Value = 1178
Allied ground losses:
36 casualties reported
I can bring along another 6 divisions if needed so no real worries.............
B29'sand LBA from Camranh Bay keep active enemy airfields in the area 'on the move' - 30 enemy planes have been destroyed over 2 days.
SS Saury heavily damaged ML Nuwashima east of Kiungahan.
-----------------
SRA -
Fairly quiet here nowadays with the focus shifting to Hainan for now.
Manila port is bombed every day and an AK and AR were sunk today.

CentPac -
Fairly quiet couple of days over here.
Saipan's B29's will hit Nagasaki's industry tomorrow.

Hi all,
Malaya/Indo China -
The landings continue at Taan under fairly heavy enemy CD fire. 90% of the men are ashore though in 80% ready condition. I will probably follow up with further landings but we'll see. There is no real threat from the Japanese since I control the sea and the air in the area.
Singapore will be attacked tomorrow. Churchill has said he wants the place back before February! Thanks for the heads up Winnie[;)]
Massive Allied bombings throughout the whole region from Siam, Malaya, Java, Celebes, PI, Hainan etc.........
We attack in Siam again at the Japanese remnants there.
------------------
SRA -
Usual here. Manila hit hard but no confirmed sinkings.
------------------
NAgasaki was smashed hard yesterday. 8 x Nick were on cAP and blown to pieces. B29's then took out 90% aircraft production and 50% of HI, resource and shipyard industries. We go back again tomorrow.

Speedy,
1. Under which column of the aircraft lost screen do kamikaze losses show up? That screenshot of 11 Dec doesn't seem to show too many kamikaze losses unless they were covered under A2A for Ki-44 and Ki-61.
2. Now be careful. Even if victory is now a formality we don't want you to get too complacent. We expect and demand a decisive Allied auto victory.
Alfred

Hi all,
Hi Alfred - I've forgotten which column Kami's show. It;s either Flak or Ground losses (for when they actually attack shipping). If they areshot down by CAP then they will be in A2A losses. Note Faber has been using Zeke/George's on Kamikazi's due to their maximum altitude allowing them to fly above Hellcat/Corsairs. Mustang/Lightning's take care of this proposition. As happened today..........
Agreed. Complacency is easy now and i'm sure some times it occurs. With such material advantages in all areas it is unfortantely fairly routine now. Mass credit to faber for continuing knowing there is very little he can do[&o]
-------------------
Malaya/Indo China -
Singapore falls and Winnie is pleased! The attached screenshot shows the final battle that wrestled control back from the Japanese. All industry and facilities are wrecked (as they should be with this massive battle). I'm just going to repair the Repair Shipyards for my use.
1/3 of my regional land forces are now 60 miles SW of Hanoi - 4500AV.
Moist troops are ashore at Taan now. Supply will unload tomorrow then we begin to probe the Japanese defences. I think i'll need to land a 2nd wave.
3 x AK and an LST sank due to mine/CD fire today.
61 enemy Kamikazi planes were destroyed around Taan today. None got through my CAP. Intel reports the Japanese have evac'd the local airbases now (Hanoi. Haiphong, Taan etc)
------------------
SRA -
Manila port bombed and AR Akashi sank.
1st USMC Para's have flown into Babo on western New Guinea. They will begin para landings soon on the remaining Japanese held empty New Guinea bases.
------------------
CentPac -
Nagasaki is pouned again and HI/Resource/Shipyard production is down to c.35%. We rest for a few more days now.

Congratulations! I wonder if Malaysia and Singapore will decide to stay part of the British Empire now?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

Hiyo, Speedy;
1200+ Superforts down? By 1/45? What the blazes happened? I haven't had the proper time to peruse all the backthread, but that sounds like a lot to me; especially as I understand that you have some LB fighter coverage over the Imperial Homeland's air space, don't you?
Another note - in my 'reality' in 6/44 the sub war still goes apace, trying to rid the seas of IJN shipping; I note that you have had some encounters with their late war PC's.
They are REAL bears sometimes, aren't they? Do you feel that they're a tad overpowered? I know that when one of my SS run into a pack of 4-6 of them, it goes something like this:
1/3 of the time - sub slinks away, feeling quite lucky
1/3 of the time - sub wracked by many charges; sent to SF with 15-75 damage percent
1/3 of the time - sub either sunk outright or flooded so severely it will go in a few days sailing.
Oh, and squeeze in a miniscule chance that the sub will shoot and kill one of the beggars...then apply the above formula.....
cya later.

Sing to the tune of "Man on the Flying Trapeze"
..Oh! We fly o'er the treetops with inches to spare,
There's smoke in the cockpit and gray in my hair.
The tracers look fine as a strafin' we go.
But, brother, we're TOO God damn low...
