When you set ASW helos on patrol in a group, do they drop sonobouys on their own? Is that what the big squars are in the unit windows when looking?

ASW Patrol set in formation editor - YES!

ASW Patrol outside of a formation - NO!

And yes the 2nm x 2nm black sqaures are sonobuoys [8D]

They actually vary in size between types of sonobuoys and their respective search ranges.

Are those sonorbuoy ranges fairly accurate? I'm only asking because the Sea King's squares are HUGE and the Viking and Osprey squares are much smaller. Just curious (as usual!)

They should be. The ranges are set in the DB to be accurate according to the equipment in RL. The graphic may or may not be, as it only represents that the sonobuoy is actually working. TonyE or CV32 may be able to clarify this more than I can.

I'm guessing that Sea King you're looking at is from a scenario in a Battleset other than EC2003 or Westpac, right ? The database for those Battlesets was not capable of being edited, and therefore some of the information in there may not be all that accurate. (Witness the 12x Maverick loadouts for the F-16 mentioned in another thread).
