Hi Castor

Just been reading about your pain from the follow unit order. I discovered a really useful solution to the follow unit problem.  Select a non combat unit (HQ, flak, art etc) as the one to move into the hex, set all the other units to follow that unit, then switch the original unit back to defend.  Everything else still move and will all stay together, you won't have to worry about the lead unit entering first, or units resetting because they are leading etc.

Laid in the harbour entrance hitting ships passing through the hex 20 miles off the coast... How many mines were laid by SS Trusty? 2 dozen?? Or 10.000? Would really love to know how the mine routine looks like. 10 sub laid mines are most often more effective than 5.000 mines laid by MLs...

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

we cross the river West of Mandalay where a single brigade was waiting for us. We kick it out easily and again I don´t know what Swift is trying to achieve with those single units. Makes it just easier to attack Mandalay. The HQ unit that was the lead unit for all my units on "FOLLOW UNIT" of course reverted to defend and stayed at Pagan... we were able to do another 4 turns today and we are going a very high speed. Though it seems we don´t see much action anymore and it´s only mid Feb... pretty quiet everywhere and the combat reports are short... with most of my targets already in our hands and my troops in excellent shape I could start to think about a new - BIG - offensive...

hmm, still not a bad result but the Chinese seem to get remarkable better. They had the bounce for the whole fight, sending the Zeroes in at 30.000 ft didn´t help - I forgot, alt doesn´t matter in A2A engagements - in the game... perhaps one of the base forces there has now radar...

stalemate at Sian, but we are in the better position at the moment. I have no idea why I don´t see 3000 assault points coming from the South to help the cut off defenders... I expect to take the base in two months time at the latest if there won´t be huge Chinese contingents brought in...

the B-17s are back! [X(] This time they come in very low after all the other attacks being flown from 20.000 ft. My Zeroes were set to 25.000 ft. and they dove on the 4E beasts with not really encouraging results as we have yet to see a B-17 being destroyed A2A during the replay. But then the bombers run into heavy flak fire! At the end of the day, 3 B-17 were lost A2A and 3 A2A! [&o] We lose 4 Zeroes on the ground as only half of our fighters decided to scramble. Still this is a very good result as the B-17E replacement rate is only 20 bombers a month so it will keep my opponent honest to try such an attack twice. In the end, the attack from 6.000 ft didn´t do him any good.

Japanese Ships
CL Naka
DD Arashi
DD Hagikaze

Allied Ships
PT PT-44
PT PT-48, Shell hits 13, and is sunk

two PTs have been spotted for days in the area of Northern New Guinea so we decided to take care of them. I don´t like fighting PTs and we were lucky when PT-48 launched it´s torps against Arashi...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Clark Field , at 43,51

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 36
Ki-21 Sally x 53
Ki-49 Helen x 157

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 1 destroyed
Ki-49 Helen: 10 damaged

Allied ground losses:
206 casualties reported
Guns lost 5
Vehicles lost 1

Airbase hits 10
Runway hits 142

Aircraft Attacking:
26 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 16000 feet

still a whole lot of hits on the runway but not a single supply hit! We have to go back to 10.000 ft as supply hits are the reason for our attacks... Even with attacks from 16.000 ft. we lose a couple of bombers every turn, so it seems worth to go down to 10.000 ft again and to lose an average of 6 bombers for an average of 5 supply hits...

Allied aircraft losses
Brewster 339D: 5 destroyed
Do 24K-2: 1 destroyed
Hawk 75A: 2 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
1307 casualties reported

the number of landed troops is pretty much overkill again, but we wanted to be sure to take the base with our first attempt as I don´t want to see surface forces or bombers coming from Northern Australia interfere with our invasion... Lautern on the East side of Timor is still in Dutch hands but we will take care of that base in the near future...

it´s obvious that we can also take whole Burma without a fight. Don´t know what I should do with the 2000+ assault points that are in Burma now... our tanks crossed the river into Mandalay and the shock attack took the empty base. Oil site is 30% damaged...

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

our deliberate attack one hex North of Sian was a full success but unfortunately the Chinese troops retreated into the mountains... [8|] if the manual () would be right then they would have had to surrender as I don´t think they could pull in supply over a couple of wooden and mountaineous hexes... mmmmmm... now it takes them two months to come down the mountains again and I have to keep 3 divisions in this area waiting for them, just to see them probably retreat again into the mountains...

we will move in another div and two eng regiments and then we will launch a deliberate attack as our IJA bombers can´t bring down the supply levels efficiently. We will suffer bloody losses but we have units at Homan that can be rotated in and 120.000 troops who have to defend will use up a lot of supplies... hopefully! [;)]

as we see no chance to do enough damage to the airfield with 100+ bombers attacking we just have to take care about Sian with deliberate attacks. I was shocked to see level 7 forts [X(] already and we suffer the expected heavy losses (though mostly disabled squads). We rotate two divs and an eng regiment out and will attack again in a couple of days. Expect such an attack to burn between 2500 and 3000 supplies of the cut off Chinese...

Suva is taken easily. Wonder why Swift hasn´t reinforced a single base in the Pacific. We´re already nearly in March so it would have been at least be possible to heavily garrison the Fidjis... serves me good, all islands in the Pacific were an easy target except Midway where the CD unit put up a very good fight. Now we will wipe out the base force and NZ brigade at Nandi...

no retreat? I wasn´t aware that these units one hex West of Sian was cut off! [X(] More Chinese units are coming from the South, we have about 110.000 troops reported. Looks like Swift is trying to break through to Sian. He abandons the next base (Ichang) and that´s just fine with me!

we will bring more troops to Clark and then attack, the more we bring, the fewer the casualties will be in the end... Nicht kleckern, klotzen! Swift has 14 units at Bataan, no clue what they are doing there. We move into Manila from the South, this means Swift can´t retreat to Manila from Clark which will make it far more easy for me to kill his troops at Clark or later at Bataan as Manila would mean fighting in an urban hex...
