A Little Tech Help If You Please

Post by Missouri_Rebel »

I own multiple copies of several games, one being FoF. Recently I purchased a couple more notebooks that run through a single wireless router. I want to be able to play some games through the internet with the family through such but am unaware if I can do so. Is this possible to do? And if so,is it easy to do for someone with minimal computer skills?

Edit to add this..Porky Singin
Thanks in advance.

It should be possible, though you might have to tinker a bit. I'm not wise enough in the way of internet technology to tell you what to do. Have you taken a shot at it yet?

Nah, haven't tried yet because the 2 notebooks are Christmas presents and therefore are hid in the woodshed. I have just heard that you cannot do so through a router while sharing an internet connection. I would like to though, as a friend of mine enjoys the game and it sure would be fun to do a little face-to-face gaming.

I did try to play Gpokr with my notebook and one of the desktops, but to no avail. Wouldn't let the other player log in. I wasn't really sure if it could be done while sharing the internet(s) connection. Anyone else ever try this? Any success?

This is probably possible using the Hamachi virtual LAN software, because each computer/notebook would have it's own virtual IP address.
I have used it to Network my desktop with my laptop. Also, all the game has to have is Internet (IP) playability for this to work, because as the name implies, it is a "virtual" LAN network, basically imulating a LAN connection regardless of the connection type.

see: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1492917&mpage=1&key=Hamachi?

The last post in that thread has a link to the software.

The only possible "fly in the ointment" might be identical serial number conflicts if you are using the same downloaded copy of the game, ericbabe or Gil could better answer that, since it's been awhile since I've played head-to-head and that was with Walloc in Denmark.
You've GOT to hold them back!

I remember the Hamachi software when you discussed it before, Gray Lensman; it sounds very helpful.

There are no serial number conflicts for tcp/ip mplayer in FOF.

Thanks a bunch Gray. I have bookmarked the site and will try when the fam is off shopping. I own two copies so serial numbers wont be a problem.

Cant wait to see if it works. I'll report back when I can find the time to try it.

BTW...can you play detailed battles head to head? I hope so. Guess I should look at the manual.

Thanks again

If you can get TCP/IP to work, then you can fight detailed battles.

I am using Hamachi with no luck. Might be FoF that is messing up because when I put in the IP addy in the login area, it recognizes my host computer, but when I try to join I get an error

Could Not Join Session Because of Error DPERR_TIMEOUT

Ever have this problem? I will try to host from laptop and see. Hmmmmmmmm?

EDIT Think I found the problem.....
Nope...still the same error. Dang! Wish I knew what was happening
